The Dame Phyllis Frost Centre (DPFC) is a 649‑bed maximum‑security facility for female offenders located within the West Metropolitan Area of the Department of Justice and Community Safety.

About the Role

Senior Prison Officers will take a lead role within custodial teams, coaching, mentoring, and supporting prison officers. They will undertake a range of teamwork, case management, custodial and security responsibilities and may be responsible for the day‑to‑day management of prison accommodation and/or security areas. They must have the ability to manage day‑to‑day operations of a team of prison officers and the case management of more complex people in prison. They will model and support pro‑social behaviour, ensure appropriate records are kept—including in a person's Individual Management Files (IMF)—and record direct interactions, progress reviews, and interactions with program staff to ensure a person's program participation aligns with their risks and needs.





- Coordinate the day‑to‑day operations of a team of prison officers in accordance with the policies and standards set out in the Commissioners Requirements, Deputy Commissioner Instructions and Service Delivery Outcomes.
- Lead and actively support teams in the security and good order of the prison through policy‑compliant searches, escorting duties, observing and assessing the behaviour of people in prison, operating security equipment, collating information, preparing reports, and effectively responding to prison incidents and contributing to static security management practices.
- Operate as the field commander by taking immediate command and control of a prison incident until relieved for any incidents within your area of work.

About You

- Demonstrated leadership capability within a correctional setting.
- Commitment to working with staff, people in prison, and other service providers to reduce re‑offending.
- Experience in correctional service delivery, including staff supervision, case management and operational security practices.
- Knowledge of, and the ability to apply, relevant legislation, policy and procedure relating to Corrections Victoria and the management of its prison facilities.
- Computer skills, including experience with the Microsoft Office Suite and the ability to learn and use internal systems (e.g., PIMS, e‑Justice, Centurion).





Qualifications / Requirements

- A full and current Victorian driver’s licence or a minimum P2 driver’s licence.
- Completion of the Prison Officer Pre‑service Training or a willingness to undertake and complete the provided Prison Officer Pre‑Service Training.
- CertificateIII in Correctional Practice (Custodial) or similar (desirable).
- CertificateIV Training and Assessment (desirable).
