Overview
Reporting to the Senior Mine Accountant, the Mine Accountant supports the Oaky Creek Coal Commercial team, playing a key role in the company’s operational success, financial performance and corporate governance. The position is located in Tieri, QLD.
Responsibilities
- Record financial transactions accurately and in accordance with company policies, accounting standards and regulatory requirements.
- Produce regular performance, cost and capital reports to provide management with actionable insights for effective business decisions and expenditure monitoring.
- Manage banking transactions, including payments, deposits and transfers, and reconcile balances to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Support commercial functions, including Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable and Payroll.
- Prepare statutory, insurance, tax and other regulatory financial returns as required.
- Execute month‑end reporting, including journal entries, reconciliations and financial summaries.
- Carry out budgeting and forecasting activities, developing, monitoring and updating budgets and forecasts on a regular basis.
- Prepare statutory financial statements and liaise with auditors.
- Provide financial information and collaborative support to Finance, Operations and other stakeholders.
Qualifications
- Tertiary qualification in Accounting or a related discipline.
- 3–5+ years of relevant experience in mining or heavy industry (postgraduate qualifications highly regarded).
- Strong commercial acumen and results‑driven, with a proven track record of improving systems while maintaining a safe working setting.
- Advanced Excel skills and the ability to work under pressure with competing priorities.
- Excellent attention to detail, proactive approach, problem‑solving ability and effective communication skills.
