Department of Justice and Attorney-General QLD

Brisbane

The FNJO was established to address the over-representation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in Queensland's criminal justice system and meet Queensland's National Agreement on Closing the Gap (the National Agreement) justice targets.

The FNJO sits within the Justice Policy and Reform division and is one of five divisions in the Department of Justice. The division consists of approximately 200 employees delivering the following functions:

• Special Projects and Statutory Reviews.

The IJP operates within the FNJO and is one of the key program areas responsible for delivering FNJO's frontline and community-based justice initiatives across Queensland. As part of FNJO's commitment to addressing the over-representation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in Queensland's criminal justice system and supporting the achievement of Closing the Gap justice targets, IJP is responsible for the development, implementation, management and continuous improvement of a range of culturally responsive justice programs across Queensland.

Working in partnership with First Nations communities, Elders, Community Justice Groups, government agencies and non-government stakeholders, IJP supports place-based initiatives that strengthen community justice responses, improve access to culturally appropriate justice services, and support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples who come into contact with the justice system.
