School Learning and Support Officer
Kiama High School – School Learning and Support Officer (Full Time, Ongoing).
Role Overview
School Learning and Support Officers provide support for students with identified diverse learning needs, including disability, in classrooms and other learning environments under the direction and supervision of a teacher. The role supports the achievement of educational outcomes and includes student welfare, health and wellbeing activities as required. Officers may also provide specific support for students in pre‑school, vision, hearing, or bilingual settings, with additional duties to meet the needs of each stream.
Responsibilities
• Assist teachers and staff in creating inclusive learning environments. • Support students’ academic and social participation. • Administer medication and provide health support as trained. • Maintain accurate records and communicate with parents and agencies as required.
Essential Requirements
- Working with Children Check Clearance
- Completion of mandatory training required by the Department of Education and a willingness to undertake first aid training relevant to the role.
- Administration of medications – training to be provided based on student needs.
- Health support training to be provided based on student needs (subject to transition provisions).
Specific Selection Criteria
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Ability to work with students with emotional, physical or intellectual disabilities.
- Awareness of the needs of students with emotional, physical or intellectual disabilities.
- Effective communication skills.
