Position Summary

Lecturer or Senior Lecturer in Mathematical Data Science – a Continuing, Full‑time (Tenure) Faculty position in the School of Mathematics and Statistics of the University of Melbourne. The role involves leading a high‑quality independent research program, teaching across undergraduate and postgraduate courses, supervising research students, and contributing to the broader academic community.

Responsibilities

- Conduct independent research, disseminate results in leading journals and conferences, and contribute actively to research seminars.
- Seek and secure external research funding through national and international grant schemes.
- Supervise MSc and PhD students within an inclusive, supportive research environment.
- Prepare, deliver, and assess undergraduate and postgraduate subjects, including curriculum development and effective use of modern technologies.
- Provide academic mentoring, oversee coursework study programmes, and lead education for diverse student groups.
- Provide leadership and service to the school, university, and the discipline.

Qualifications

- PhD or equivalent research higher degree in mathematics, statistics, or a closely related discipline.
- Demonstrated research excellence through strong publications and an emerging or established international reputation.




- Capacity to strengthen the school’s research and education activities and broaden existing thematic strengths.
- Experience building productive research collaborations and attracting competitive funding.
- Evidence of potential to design and teach subjects at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
- Commitment to collegial contribution, leadership, service, professional activity, and engagement with diverse communities.
