Job Description

Target Business Services Location: 581 Elderslie Rd, Broadmarsh, TAS 7030 Salary: $80,000 – $85,000 plus 12% superannuation. We are currently seeking a skilled and motivated Dairy Technician to support the effective management of dairy production activities and livestock performance. The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting in herd management, monitoring animal health and nutrition, maintaining production standards, collecting and analysing farm data, and implementing improved dairy farming practices to maximise productivity and animal welfare. This is a key position within the organisation and requires a strong understanding of dairy production systems, livestock management practices, and agricultural technologies.

Qualifications and Experience

- A Diploma or higher qualification in Agriculture, Dairy Production, Animal Science, Agricultural Technology, or a related field.

Three years of relevant experience may substitute for formal qualifications.

- At least three years of relevant experience in dairy farming, livestock production, or agricultural operations.
- Demonstrated knowledge of dairy herd management, animal nutrition, and milk production processes.
- Experience in collecting, analysing, and maintaining farm production records and livestock data.
- Sound understanding of workplace health and safety requirements and biosecurity practices in agricultural environments.

Key Responsibilities

- Examine pasture, soil, and environmental conditions to determine their suitability for dairy production and identify factors affecting feed quality and livestock performance.
- Assist in developing and implementing improved methods of pasture management, feeding programs, milking operations, and herd management to maximise productivity and land utilisation.
- Monitor livestock health and identify diseases, parasites, and other conditions affecting dairy cattle, and assist in implementing appropriate control and treatment measures.
- Analyse milk production and farm outputs to establish and maintain quality standards and production targets.
- Inspect dairy cattle to evaluate the effectiveness of feeding programs, nutritional supplements, and herd management practices.




- Assist in breeding and herd improvement programs aimed at enhancing milk production, animal health, and genetic performance.
- Coordinate the supply and administration of veterinary drugs, vaccines, feed supplements, and agricultural chemicals, and provide advice on their appropriate use.
- Collect, record, and analyse production, breeding, and animal health data to support farm planning and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Assist in planning and coordinating milking schedules, feed management programs, livestock movements, and other aspects of dairy production operations.
- Provide advice and recommendations to farm management regarding dairy production techniques, animal husbandry practices, and strategies to improve operational efficiency and sustainability.
- Ensure compliance with animal welfare, biosecurity, workplace health and safety, and environmental regulations applicable to dairy farming operations.
- Maintain accurate records relating to herd performance, milk yields, treatments, breeding activities, and farm production outcomes.
