Overview
The Direct Satellite Access (DSA) Mission System enables The Department to acquire satellite imagery from established commercial vendors, contributing to the overall needs of the Australian Government.

Role Description

The Solutions Architect will provide authoritative technical direction for mission system sustainment and would ensure coherent technical design governance associated with the Direct Satellite Access (DSA) in alignment of system evolution with organisational objectives, policy and long-term capability direction.

The Solutions Architect will oversee complex integrations across multi-vendor components, manage technical risk and ensure consistent application of design patterns, which is essential to maintaining system resilience and sustainment efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

- Provide advice for sustainment by shaping configuration management priorities, and defining architectural expectations that uphold resilience, safeguard critical pathways, and ensure long term stability and uplift of the capability.
- Shape and guide the architectural direction to ensure Direct Satellite Access (DSA) by advising on design choices, boundary arrangements, and system wide patterns that influence organisational objectives and future capability direction.
- Provide advice on major design artefacts and integration with satellite to enable access and tasking, including integration between Antennas, the secure environment, data centres and the centralised tasking facility,



via the Wide Area Network (WAN). This will ensure controlled interactions, predictable behaviour, and solid design integrity across Commonwealth and commercial environments.
- Assist with DSA strategic integration decisions to ensure multi-vendor components follow consistent control layers, separation expectations, and alignment with organisational policies, standards, and operating models.
- Implement system wide improvement initiatives for the DSA by uplifting design patterns, workflows, and lifecycle models, ensuring enhancements strengthen system integrity, controlled operation, and long term resilience.
- Lead high level engagement with vendors and commercial partners, resolving complex technical and integration challenges between each of the elements of the DSA and other Defence ICT infrastructure. This involves shaping solution approaches, and contributing to contract discussions or negotiations to ensure outcomes align with architectural expectations for enterprise solutions.
- Oversee risk identification and design governance, ensuring the DSA integration constraints, technology risk considerations, and vendor proposals are managed strategically and escalated appropriately when they impact broader organisational direction.
- Communicate complex architectural concepts in clear, actionable terms to senior management, technical leaders, and external partners, shaping organisational understanding and influencing strategic outcomes.
