The Opportunity
Due to a long, strong and ongoing pipeline of work we are seeking motivated applicants for the positions of qualified Carpet Layers within our Adelaide Trades team who will be required to work on a wide range of residential and commercial projects.
Essential Skills Needed
- Qualification: MSF30822 Certificate III in Flooring Technology (Carpet) and 3+ years’ experience as a carpet layer.
- Physical Fitness: Ability to lift heavy materials, spend long hours on knees, bending, and lifting.
- Technical Skills: Knowledge of different carpet types, sewing techniques, and tools (e.g., knee kickers, power stretchers, seam irons).
- Attention to Detail: Ensuring seamless, tight, and high-quality finishes.
- Math Skills: Ability to perform basic arithmetic for accurate measurements and cuts
- Experience: Previous experience as a carpet layer for a flooring company.
- Tools: supply and maintain own commercial grade (e.g., knee kicker, seam iron, shears, knives). Note a tool maintenance allowance is included in the salary package).
- Licenses: A driver’s license is essential to travel to different job sites and transport materials
About You
- Ability to manage own time and others to meet agreed timeframe and projects.
- Able to work on tasks autonomously.
- Construction OHS card (white card) (we will help you obtain this).
- Excellent spoken English
- Provide own vehicle to get themselves and their tools to site.
- Have an International Drivers Licence, knowledge of Australian Road Rules (we can provide links to these) or Australian Drivers Licence & be able to confidently drive.
- Able to work unsupervised and part of a team.
- Able to follow instructions.
- Hard working and reliable.

Additional Information
- Must have: AQF Certificate III Flooring Technology MSF30822 including at least three years of on-the-job training, or AQF Certificate IV (ANZSCO Skill Level 3)
Primary Responsibilities
- Measure and assess the area where the carpet will be installed to determine the amount of carpet needed and to identify any special considerations or challenges.
- Remove old flooring and prepare the subfloor for installation, which may involve cleaning, levelling, or repairing the surface.
- Cut the carpet to fit the space and lay it out in a way that minimizes waste and maximizes efficiency.
- Installing tack strips/grippers,
- Seaming carpets together, trimming edges, and ensuring a precise fit against walls and fixtures.
- Stretch and tack the carpet into place, ensuring that it is smooth, even, and securely attached to the subfloor.
- Install padding and other materials as needed to improve insulation, soundproofing, or moisture resistance.
- Trim and finish the edges of the carpet using tools such as a carpet knife or carpet stretcher.
- Clean up the work area and dispose of old materials and debris.
- Communicate with clients and other contractors as needed to coordinate installation schedules and ensure that the job is completed to their satisfaction.
- Adhere to safety regulations and best practices, including using protective equipment and ensuring that work areas are free from hazards.
- Maintaining tools and equipment, ensuring they are clean, in valuable working condition, and properly stored.
- The specific duties and responsibilities of a carpet installer may vary depending on the type of flooring being installed and the requirements of the job.
- Additionally, carpet installers may be required to work extra hours, including evenings and weekends, to accommodate each specific client’s schedule and preferences.
