We are appointing a Lecturer and/or Senior Lecturer in Veterinary Small Animal Surgery (Education‑Focused) to support teaching of small animal surgery within the DVM program and to oversee the Small Animal Surgery curriculum. The role includes active teaching of DVM veterinary students in liaison with the Heads of Specialist and Primary Care Services.

An academic background is not essential; strong clinical experience will be considered.

A Lecturer is expected to engage in teaching and research independently or as part of a team, supporting the DVM program primarily through clinical supervision of surgery practical and didactic classes. The Lecturer should have advanced training in a specific discipline (e.g., membership or similar).

Base salary for a Lecturer at Level B: $132,533 – $157,381 p.a + 15% loading for a Registered Specialist + 17% superannuation (total package up to $211,756 p.a).

A Senior Lecturer is expected to engage in teaching and research independently or as part of a team, supporting the DVM program predominantly through clinical supervision of surgery practical and didactic classes. The Senior Lecturer should have advanced training in a specific discipline (e.g., membership or similar).

Base salary for a Senior Lecturer at Level B: $162,347 – $187,198 p.a + 15% loading for a Registered Specialist + 17% superannuation (total package up to $251,874 p.a).

- Maintain and contribute to the School’s long‑standing reputation of academic excellence.
- Collaborate with staff to coordinate and develop curricula and programs, ensuring outstanding teaching and learning outcomes.
- Coordinate and engage in high‑quality teaching and learning experiences that meet university expectations and standards.
- Make original and innovative contributions to the advancement of research and education within the discipline, recognised as outstanding nationally or internationally.
- Maintain a research profile that meets university expectations, enhancing the School’s reputation through competitive research grants, other research income generation, and publication in peer‑reviewed international journals.
- Collaborate cooperatively and constructively with colleagues in teaching and research teams.

About you

Lecturer in Veterinary Small Animal (Education‑Focused)

- Registration or eligibility for registration with the NSW Veterinary Practitioners Board.
- Advanced training in Small Animal Surgery (ANZCVS Membership or similar).
- Ability to work cooperatively and constructively with colleagues and veterinarians across all referral services in a collegiate manner.
- Desirable experience in teaching.

Senior Lecturer in Veterinary Small Animal (Education‑Focused)

- PhD (or near completion) or specialist qualification.
- Veterinary Science degree registered to practice in New South Wales.
- High level of veterinary surgical skills and capacity to communicate and instruct practical surgery and perform didactic teaching activities.
- Track record of publication in the field of veterinary surgery.
- In‑depth knowledge of key strategic issues in higher education.
- Ability to lead and support academic endeavors from curriculum design to producing leading research and providing a student‑enabling environment.
- Sustained record of excellence in teaching and learning design and practice, evidenced through successful student outcomes, award recognition, and innovation.
