About the Role
Reporting to the Production Manager, you will take ownership of the day-to-day workshop plan and lead our team of boilermakers, welders, apprentices and labourers. Working in a fast-paced structural steel environment, you will set priorities, allocate labour, manage short‑term and longer‑term delivery targets, and keep production moving to critical dates.
You will be a strong "player‑coach" leader who builds accountability, motivates performance and creates a positive team culture. You will work closely with project, commercial, quality and supply teams to remove constraints, solve problems early and keep jobs on track.
Responsibilities
- Lead the workshop production plan, sequencing work and allocating resources effectively.
- Build a clear, accountable and high‑performing team culture.
- Coach, support and develop the workshop team through regular communication and follow‑up including a daily pre‑start meeting.
- Drive safety leadership, compliance and a strong "Safety First, Quality Always" mindset.
- Champion quality, manage defects early and ensure work is completed right the first time.
- Coordinate job flow, materials, drawings, plant and labour to maintain productivity.
- Monitor output, rework, waste, utilisation, costs and programme performance.
- Work with stakeholders to resolve issues, manage risks and support successful delivery.
- Approve timesheets, manage leave and ensure fatigue is considered in workforce planning.
About You
- Strong knowledge of welding QA,
fabrication standards and structural steel. Ideally you are a trade qualified Boilermaker and have progressed to Workshop Supervisor or similar role.
- Highly organised with excellent problem‑solving and decision‑making skills.
- Exceptional leadership skills, able to motivate, mentor, and hold others accountable to deliver successful project outcomes.
- Excellent communication, planning and organisation skills.
- A practical, solutions‑focused mindset with a strong sense of urgency.
- Confidence using Microsoft Office, including Excel and Word.
- A Construction White Card and driver’s licence.
- Qualifications within AS1796 Certificate 10 or IW‑B (preferred).
- Note that the successful candidate may need to undergo a pre‑employment medical check.
