Your impact

At Jacobs, we’re helping shape resilient, reliable, and sustainable power networks across the APAC region. As an Associate Secondary Engineer in our High Voltage Substations team, you’ll support secondary engineering and consulting services across transmission and distribution projects ranging from 132kV up to 500kV.

You’ll work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams, contributing technical leadership while continuing to develop your capability in a supportive, high‑performing environment. This role is well suited to an experienced secondary engineer who enjoys solving complex technical challenges, influencing project outcomes, and mentoring others, while continuing to grow professionally with guidance from Jacobs’ operational and technical leaders.

Additional experience in Protection Engineering is highly regarded; however, we welcome applications from strong secondary engineers who are keen to further develop their protection capability as part of their ongoing career progression.

What You’ll Be Doing

- Support the development of design concepts and technical solutions for high voltage substations.
- Interpret technical, commercial, and operational requirements to recommend best‑practice engineering solutions.
- Provide project oversight, supporting co‑located and dispersed project team members to deliver work safely, on time, and within budget.
- Deliver secondary (and, where applicable, protection) consulting and engineering services across transmission and distribution projects, including:
- Concept, tender, and detailed design of secondary, protection, and control systems.
- Electrical single‑line diagrams.
- Protection, metering, and control schemes.




- Relay coordination studies and short‑circuit analysis.
- Protection settings, logic configurations, interlocking and inter‑tripping schemes.
- IEC 61850 substation communication networks.

You’ll also

- Contribute to service estimates, bids, and proposals, working with multidisciplinary and globally distributed teams.
- Support client engagement and relationship building through project delivery, industry participation, and collaboration with Jacobs’ commercial teams.
- Contribute to mentoring, coaching, and developing engineers, fostering a culture of learning, collaboration, and technical excellence.

Qualifications & Requirements

- Demonstrated experience delivering secondary engineering services within high‑voltage transmission and distribution environments (typically ≥132 kV).
- A strong understanding of secondary, protection, and control engineering principles.
- Experience contributing to complex engineering projects and multidisciplinary teams.
- Working knowledge of IEC 61850 systems and substation communication standards.
- Clear, concise, professional written and verbal communication skills.
- Familiarity with industry standards and regulatory frameworks (e.g. National Electricity Rules, AEMO Guidelines, Safety in Design).
