Position Description:

At CGI, you will help shape the cost foundations of complex space and satellite communications programmes that enable secure connectivity, sovereign capability, and national resilience.

As a Senior Cost Modeller, you will play a critical role in ensuring major space and satcom initiatives are underpinned by robust, defensible, and data-driven cost models.

Working alongside programme, engineering, and finance leaders, you will influence strategic investment decisions across the full lifecycle of high-value programmes.

You’ll be trusted to take ownership of complex challenges, encouraged to apply creative thinking to cost insight, and supported by a collaborative environment focused on delivering meaningful outcomes in one of Australia’s most strategic sectors.

Your future duties and responsibilities:

In this role, you will lead cost modelling activity across large-scale space and satellite communications programmes, supporting decisions from early concept through delivery and long-term sustainment.

You will work closely with project managers, engineers, and finance teams to ensure cost estimates are transparent, evidence-based, and aligned with strategic and operational objectives.

You will also contribute to governance, assurance, and continuous improvement, strengthening how cost insight supports affordability, risk management, and successful programme outcomes in highly regulated environments.

Key responsibilities:

> Develop & Model: Build and maintain complex cost models across the full programme lifecycle.

> Analyse & Advise: Perform scenario analysis, sensitivity testing, and cost-driver assessments.

> Forecast & Control:

Monitor cost performance, update forecasts, and support cost control actions.

> Engage & Influence: Present cost insights to senior stakeholders, justifying assumptions and methodologies.

> Assure & Govern: Ensure cost models meet internal, industry, and audit standards with clear documentation.

Required qualifications to be successful in this role:

Essential:
• Demonstrated experience in full stack software development using modern frameworks such as React, Angular, or Vue.js (frontend) and Node.js, Python, Java, or C# (backend).
• Strong understanding of RESTful APIs, microservices, and containerised deployments (Docker, Kubernetes).
• Experience with SQL and NoSQL databases (PostgreSQL, MongoDB, etc.).
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, version control (Git), and automated testing.
• Experience developing in secure or Defence ICT environments.
• Solid problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Excellent communication and documentation skills.
Desirable:
• Experience with cloud-native platforms (AWS, Azure, or OpenShift) in secure environments.
• Knowledge of data modelling, event-driven architectures, and message brokers (Kafka, RabbitMQ).
• Exposure to DevSecOps practices and infrastructure as code (Terraform, Ansible).
• Understanding of Defence software assurance and accreditation processes.

Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
• Current NV1 or higher security clearance.
• Relevant certifications (e.g. AWS Certified Developer, Microsoft Azure Developer, CompTIA Security+).
