Established in 1958, The Sutherland Hospital campus offers a comprehensive range of inpatient and community services to around 226,000 residents of the Sutherland Shire.

Where you'll be working

The Surgical Short Stay Unit and Pre-Admission Clinics are co-located. The Unit offers pre‑ and post‑operative care for a variety of surgical procedures including cataract, orthopaedic, gynaecological, urology, endoscopic and general surgery.

Operating Monday to Friday (excluding public holidays), the Unit comprises 18 elective surgical beds and accommodates ward‑based procedures. This is a fast‑paced, high‑turnover unit with a dynamic team supported by a Clinical Nurse Educator.

Your new role

The vision for South Eastern Sydney Local Health District (SESLHD) is ‘exceptional care, healthier lives’. The Enrolled Nurse delivers high‑quality nursing care to patients and clients of The Sutherland Hospital in accordance with SESLHD and hospital policies, procedures and standards.

The Enrolled Nurse works under the direction and supervision of a Registered Nurse/Midwife and assists in the provision of nursing care. Enrolled Nurses retain responsibility for their personal actions while remaining accountable to the Registered Nurse/Midwife for delegated functions.

All Enrolled Nurses must comply and act in accordance with recognised qualified and organisational standards established by NSW Health, the Nursing and Midwives Board of Australia, SESLHD and The Sutherland Hospital. Clinical supervision at the point of care is the responsibility of each Registered Nurse/Midwife and Enrolled Nurse within everyday clinical practice,



in line with the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Council Decision Making Frameworks for Nurses and Midwives.

Employment of a temporary visa holder may only occur if no suitable permanent resident or citizen of Australia has been identified for this position following suitable labour market testing.

The ideal candidate will have

- Current unrestricted registration as an Enrolled Nurse with the Nursing & Midwifery Board of Australia.
- Held a Nursing & Midwifery Board of Australia approved qualification in medicines administration.
- Ability to communicate effectively with patients, carers, other care providers, hospital clinicians, immediate team members and other stakeholders.
- Supports working in a person‑centred environment.
- Basic computer skills and proven ability to use health information systems.
- Knowledge and understanding of risk management, safety and quality principles and the role of the Enrolled Nurse in applying these principles.
- 1982 hours (equivalent to one year full time) or more post registration experience in an acute care setting.
