Employment Type: Part-time (0.6-0.8 FTE), 3-4 days per week

Reports to: Team Leader

Location: Midland

We’re looking for an experienced Senior Advocate to join our small, supportive team.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced practitioner who is passionate about supporting parents and families involved in the child protection system while also helping strengthen advocacy practice across the organisation.

Reporting to the Team Leader, the Senior Advocate provides high-quality, trauma-informed advocacy to families with complex needs, while mentoring colleagues, supporting practice development and contributing to service improvement, sector education and systems advocacy.

Key responsibilities

- Provide independent advocacy and case management to parents and families with complex needs

- Support parents through child protection meetings, planning processes and court-related matters

- Mentor and provide practice guidance to Advocates through case consultation and informal supervision

- Assist with intake, complex triage and case allocation

- Contribute to practice development, service improvement and organisational policies

- Facilitate or support workshops, training and community education

- Build strong relationships with Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations (ACCOs), community partners and sector stakeholders

- Identify systemic issues and contribute to policy and systems advocacy

- Maintain high-quality case records, documentation and reporting

About you

You will bring:

- A degree in Social Work or another relevant four-year qualification (Psychology, Human Services, Counselling or similar)

- Significant experience in advocacy, case management or family support

- Advanced understanding of the child protection system and the challenges experienced by families





- Demonstrated ability to support parents with complex needs using trauma-informed, culturally safe and strengths-based approaches

- Experience mentoring colleagues or providing practice leadership

- Excellent communication, assessment, negotiation and organisational skills

- A collaborative approach and commitment to reflective practice

- Experience working respectfully with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families, communities and ACCOs

Desirable

- Experience delivering training, group work or community education

- Experience in intake, triage and case allocation

- Experience or lived experience working alongside people with lived experience of the child protection system

Requirements

- Valid driver’s licence

- Roadworthy insured vehicle for work-related travel

- National Police Clearance and Working with Children Check (or willing to obtain)
