PRINCIPAL MINING ENGINEER / TECHNICAL SERVICES SUPERINTENDENT
Current Gold Project | Perth initially → Perth DIDO to site later
Some roles are just jobs. Others are the sort you look back on and say, "I helped build that." This is one of those roles.
A rare opportunity exists to join a growing WA gold developer and play a genuine leadership role in taking this new Gold Project from development phase into operating reality. We're seeking a Principal Mining Engineer / Technical Services Superintendent who knows their craft, can see around corners, and doesn't need a 14-person committee to make sensible decisions.
Initially Perth based, this role will transition to site as operations ramp up. So yes - you can enjoy coffee machines and city parking pain now, then graduate to where the real work happens later - DIDO from Perth on a negotiable/flexible 8/6 or 8/6, 4/3 TBC (Perth ~3hrs, Busso <3, Albany <2).
The Role
Reporting to the COO, you'll be the owner of:
- Mineral Reserves
- Mine design
- Medium to long-term mine planning
- Technical leadership of mining operations
- Contractor performance / mining services interface
- Building the technical mining team from the ground up
In short: if it matters technically, commercially or operationally... you'll likely be in the middle of it.
You'll work closely with Mining, Geology, Exploration, Executives and the Board — meaning this is not a role for someone who likes hiding behind spreadsheets and speaking only in acronyms.
What You'll Be Doing
Mine Planning / Technical Leadership
- Lead Life of Mine planning, mine design and scheduling
- Work with Geology / Exploration to optimise resource models
- Maintain reserve integrity and planning accuracy
- Develop long-term operating and capital cost models
- Provide input into studies, reviews and future growth options
- Continuously improve plans, productivity and practicality (not PowerPoint theory)
Contractor / Operational Readiness
- Help establish the mining services contractor model
- Provide technical & commercial input into contract setup
- Monitor contractor performance, cost and productivity
- Identify shortfalls early (before they become expensive "surprises")
- Develop procedures, systems and operational readiness frameworks
Team Building
- Work with the Mining Manager to recruit and lead the site technical team
- Help shape culture, standards and expectations from day one
- Build something properly, not inherit someone else's mess
What We're Looking For
- Mining Engineering degree
- Roughly 15-20+ years' experience across technical and operational mining roles
- Strong background in open pit planning / scheduling / technical services
- Exposure to greenfield / project development highly valued
- Strong commercial acumen (contracts, cost models, contractor management)
- Able to communicate with operators, executives and everyone in between
- Decisive, practical and respected — not just loud in meetings
Why This Role?
Because genuine build roles at this level don't come along every week, nor in locations like this!
You won't be joining a giant machine to become employee #847 with 6 layers of approvals to move a wheel chock or step up the coffee order from International Roast tins. You'll have visibility, influence and the chance to leave fingerprints on a new operation.
The Honest Bit
This role will suit someone who enjoys responsibility, accountability and making things happen. If you need constant hand-holding, endless process, or a weekly wellness circle before making decisions... this probably isn't your gig.
Interested?
Submit your resume with a convincing cover letter or contact us for a confidential conversation.
Quality applicants will be treated confidentially, rest assured. Timewasters, tyre-kickers, Freo supporters and serial "just curious" operators may be mocked privately.
Not for you? If your mate Dwight would walk into this job & it fits him better than his jeans, help the bloke out and forward it on. Don't be the mate equivalent of a flat tyre. Ignore this and may your coffee lids forever leak in the car.
To apply for either of these positions, please click on the "Apply" tab below and ideally include a cover letter.
(Note: This does not mean I'll send your resume to the client - we will discuss the opportunity first & if you approve, you will know where your resume is being sent).
