About the job

Join SA Water as a Barrage Attendant and play an important role in the safe operation, maintenance and management of South Australia’s unique barrage and environmental infrastructure. Based in Goolwa, this role will see you working across the Lower Lakes and Coorong system, supporting the operation of barrages, locks and associated structures while contributing to water quality, environmental outcomes and safe public access.

Working alongside management, customers, landholders, contractors and key stakeholders, you will be part of a dedicated team committed to delivering reliable services and maintaining these important community assets.

About Operations and Maintenance





The Operations & Maintenance team oversees the management of our water, wastewater and River Murray activities and conducts operational control activities for a secure water supply. The team is responsible for both planned and unplanned maintenance activities, integrating corrective, preventive, predictive, and precision maintenance strategies. They aim to meet availability, performance, cost, and risk targets by leveraging technical asset maintenance and reliability expertise. Operations & Maintenance strives to deliver smart and reliable services to customers while enhancing overall operational efficiency.

In addition, your responsibilities will include:

- Operating lock chambers and associated infrastructure to facilitate safe navigation along the River Murray.
- Assisting with the operation and maintenance of locks, barrages, fishways and environmental management structures.
- Conducting routine inspections and collecting accurate operational and environmental data.
- Maintaining public facilities and providing a high level of customer service to river users and visitors.
- Supporting river flow management activities in accordance with operational requirements.
- Operating and maintaining tools, plant, equipment and vehicles safely and effectively.
- Contributing to a solid safety culture through hazard identification, incident reporting and compliance with safe work practices.
- Working collaboratively with colleagues, contractors,



customers and other stakeholders.
- Participating in environmental monitoring activities, including fishway operations and fish movement monitoring.

Your success in this role will come from:

Essential:

- Basic computer skills in common applications such as Word, Excel and Email.
- Ability to effectively utilise electronic measuring devices, plant, equipment and hand tools.
- Ability to utilise JHA’s, SWMS and SWP’s, identify hazards and report near misses and incidents.
- Ability to communicate effectively (both written and verbal) and undertake basic calculations.
- White Card and Current and valid driver’s licence.

Desirable:

- Understanding of river systems and general operation of barrages, locks and environmental structures.
- Restricted Coxswain Certificate and Boat Licence.
- Forklift licence and/or any other relevant tickets.
