The Role
The duties of an EL 1 Product Manager occupation in Defence include the following:

- Accountable for managing allocated resources, setting work area priorities, managing workflows, developing strategies and evaluating business outcomes.
- Accountable for managing and leading a team, including providing clear and consistent communication, setting clear performance and behavioural standards, managing performance, delegating responsibility and guiding and developing people.
- Accountable for accurate completion of work within timeframes and quality requirements, share own expertise with others and guide and coach less experienced employees.
- Accountable to manage a range of product management activities and coordinate inputs in accordance with procedures, methods and standards appropriate to the complexity of the product.
- Accountable for the development, implementation and monitoring of product management strategies and plans, enabling delivery and reporting on the requirements and expectations of the management of Defence assets.
- Translate, apply and implement the administrative, operational, contract management, technical and resource requirements for complex to very complex product management activities.
- Forecast, plan and manage product management workflows and resources, prepare work plans detailing measurable milestones and expected outcomes.
- Engage, negotiate and sustain working relationships on complex to very complex issues to understand and influence the stakeholder requirements.
- Build and sustain productive working relationships to enable effective transition of the Defence asset through the capability lifecycle.
- Analyse, develop and implement product management options that achieve optimal use of Defence assets,



balancing cost, opportunities and risks against desired asset performance.
- Review, analyse and report on product performance.

About our Team
The Maritime Auxiliary Systems Program Office (MASPO) supports the Royal Australian Navy’s maritime auxiliary fleet and equipment including maritime aviation and navigation training vessels, underwater surveillance, pacific and border force support, marine and towing services, as well as submarine search and rescue capabilities.

Maritime auxiliary is a new and developing capability within the Defence environment, and our work in MA SPO ensures the safe, secure and efficient delivery of services to the Royal Australian Navy.

As a key enabler of maritime operations, our team provides the expertise, oversight and coordination needed to meet the challenges of the strategic environment including project, deter and protecting Australia’s maritime interests.

- Technical knowledge - Robust understanding of operations and maintenance procedures and strategies.
- Product management skills - Proficient in product management methodologies and tools, with the ability to manage multiple task simultaneously.
- Communication skills - Excellent verbal and written communication abilities, to interact effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
- Leadership abilities - Strong team management skills, and have an ability to motivate and guide teams towards achieving project objectives.
- Problem-solving skills - Ability to identify issues, analyse root causes, and implement effective solutions promptly.

In addition, individual has ability and willingness to work flexibly across diverse portfolio when required.
