About the team:

The City Inspectorate branch is responsible for enforcement of the City’s standards and local laws, across building, community, public safety and environmental health compliance to protect safety and amenity for the City’s residents and visitors.

The Public Safety Compliance business unit is responsible for:

- Managing local government homelessness activities, including compliance, on the Gold Coast.
- Local law enforcement including illegal camping, abandon vehicles, interference with the road, park management and more.
- Managing the City’s Community Safety Program.
- Managing protective security services for City assets and staff.

About the role:

The Coordinator Public Amenity and Regulation plays a vital role responsible for leading the City's response to people experiencing homelessness, including managing operational compliance activities associated with the Place Based Management Approach. This role provides key leadership to the team, ensuring effective communication across stakeholders and line management while promoting efficient day-to-day operations.

The Coordinator is responsible for providing advocacy and advisory services on homelessness issues, both within Council and across the broader service sector.

Your responsibilities will include:

- Lead and manage a team of City Laws Officers to proactively and reactively address illegal camping and a diverse range of compliance matters relative to State and City legislation, policies and standards.
- Manage various resources to ensure optimum service delivery as defined in the Branch plan and supports strategic decisions.
- Manage complex interactions with people experiencing homelessness, including engagement with specialist homelessness services.
- Provide specialised professional advice across a diverse range of technical regulatory matters, including human rights considerations.
- Advocate and facilitate the targeted initiatives for Local Government outcomes in the homelessness sector.




- Establish and maintain strong and collaborative working relationships within Council and external (community groups, businesses and associations) to increase awareness, voluntary compliance and continuous service improvement.
- Prepare annual capital and operational budgets and manage all associated operational functions within budget parameters.

- Have proven ability to work within a team with demonstrable experience in managing multiple tasks, with the ability to plan, organise and prioritise work to reach agreed successful conclusions.
- Have relevant tertiary or equivalent qualifications (e.g. Business Management) or substantial knowledge and previous experience
- Hold a Certificate III in Local Government (desirable) or Equivalent Knowledge and/or Experience
- Hold a Certificate IV in Leadership and Management (desirable) or Equivalent Knowledge and/or Experience
- Hold a Drivers Licence Class C Unrestricted
