Apprentice Butcher – Full Time & School Based Apprenticeships Available

Mick's Meat Barn has been owned and operated by the same family for over 35 years, and we have staff members who have been with us for almost that long!

We specialise in Free-Range Beef, Lamb and Chickens and still process whole carcases.

We currently have opportunities available for both School Based Apprentices and Full Time Apprentices who are looking to start a career in the meat industry.

If you’d like to get into the food industry and work as a butcher, this is how you get a start in our industry. We still process whole Beef, Pork, Lamb, Chooks and even Goats, so you’ll learn how to break them all down — not just grab primal cuts out of a box.

You’ll also learn lots more, including retail skills and hopefully some cooking skills to test some of the produce!

If this sounds like something you’d be interested in, please send us a resume with details of any experience relevant to the position (particularly retail or food-related experience) and a cover letter telling us why you’d like to start an apprenticeship.

Remember, this is a commitment on both our parts and it will take somewhere between 2–4 years. You commit to learning, and we commit to teaching you (properly!). If you’d like to complete a Certificate III in Meat Processing – Retail Butcher, read on.

Apprentice wages apply (minimum rates for Adult Apprentices also apply), so to be considered for this position you must:

• Have a genuine interest and desire to forge a career in the meat industry
• Be physically fit
• Be willing to take direction, ask questions and seek support whenever needed
• Have a positive manner, be dedicated to your learning and complete the tasks set by your trainers
• Be prepared to work hard and be part of a team

If you're a recent school leaver, you'll need a reasonable level of Maths and English skills. Good Maths is important for weighing, costing and recipe calculations, while English is important for communicating with customers and completing your apprenticeship coursework.

Email your application to ****@micksmeatbarn.com.au or send through any questions you may have.

Please note: This position is open to applicants who already have the right to work in Australia. We are unable to offer visa sponsorship for this apprenticeship position.

School-based apprentices are encouraged to apply. This is a great chance for students looking to gain a trade qualification while completing their schooling.

This is a genuine opportunity to learn traditional butchery from experienced butchers in a business that still processes whole carcases. If you're looking for more than just packing meat into trays, we'd love to hear from you.

Only suitable candidates will be contacted. Any unsolicited resumes submitted by agencies will be treated as direct applications and no placement or introduction fees will be payable.
