Women's Legal Centre

Canberra

Job description

- Unpaid Volunteer

The Women’s Legal Centre ACT is seeking interest from First Nations women to serve as a Board Member.

The Centre is a values-driven and contemporary community-based legal practice and the only intersectional feminist legal assistance service in the ACT. The Centre also includes Mulleun Mura, a specialist program run and led by First Nations women to support First Nations women, their children and their communities. This program prioritises self-determination, safety and connection to culture.

We recognise that meaningful First Nations governance is about more than representation. It is about ensuring Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander voices have genuine influence in the decisions that shape our organisation, our services and our future. Joining the Board is an opportunity to contribute to strategic decision-making, strengthen accountability to First Nations communities, and help shape an organisation committed to culturally safe practice, self-determination and continuous learn.

The Centre is guided by a skilled and diverse board that supports the development of strategy, provides leadership, and oversees our strong governance, financial management and risk frameworks. Importantly, the board models and reflects the culture of the Centre – blending traditional board roles with creativity, commitment,

mutual respect, and humour. We value deep listening and thoughtful questions.

If you are a woman with a passion for culturally safe service delivery, building cultural capability in mainstream organisations and have skills and experience in any of the following areas, we would love to hear from you:
