Primary objective
As part of a small, agile Big Rivers CM and C team, you will provide strategic advice and support to the Regional Director
and Regional Executive Director. In this role, you will contribute to the regional implementation of the NT Government’s
priorities of Rebuilding the Economy, Reducing Crime and Restoring the Territory Lifestyle. You will support and drive the
development of initiatives, strategies and projects that contribute to regional development,
working closely with your
colleagues in other regions, and policy teams across the division and agencies. You will also prepare high-quality advice to
the CEO, Ministers and Cabinet regarding regional issues and priorities, including Aboriginal Affairs.
Context statement
The Department of the Chief Minister and Cabinet’s purpose is to deliver coordinated policy and priority reform, regional
leadership, and high-quality support to Executive Government. This position reports the Regional Director Big Rivers.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Support leadership, coordination and delivery of NT Government priorities at the regional level through regional
coordination and other regional/local committees.
2. Manage priority regional initiatives and projects, working with agency leads to identify opportunities, progress
implementation and ensure ongoing monitoring.
3. Develop, maintain and influence collaborative partnerships with colleagues and stakeholders at the regional and
Territory levels.
4. Prepare and review high level briefings, reports, correspondence and project plans to support the Regional Executive
Director and Regional Director.
5.
Provide leadership and coordinate activities of Chief Minister and Cabinet staff to ensure the functioning of the office.
6. Support emergency and disaster management and recovery.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Proven capacity to coordinate and implement effective policy outcomes to communities in a highly sensitive, complex,
joined up government and cross-cultural setting.
2. Demonstrated leadership skills incorporating strong strategic, communication, influencing and emotional intelligence
skills with a strong attention to detail.
3. Proven capacity to design and implement projects and provide strategic advice to government and other key
stakeholders.
4. Demonstrated understanding of policy and related implementation, particularly relating to the NT Government’s
priorities.
5. Demonstrated high level written, oral communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to work in a team and
influence others to create alignment between diverse parties with different viewpoints while maintaining productive
working relationships internally and externally.
6. Demonstrated experience with emergency recovery.
7. A current ‘C’ Class drivers’ licence or equivalent and Ochre card, or the ability to obtain, with a willingness to travel to
remote locations.
Desirable
1. An understanding of the social, political and demographic environment of Big Rivers Region and an ability to interact
effectively with people from diverse cultures.
2. Tertiary qualification in project management or a similar management qualification.
