Primary objective
Provide professional surveying advice and services to support the land surveying regulatory framework, the maintenance of
survey records, systems and infrastructure, as well as the development of Government land in the Northern Territory (NT).

Key duties and responsibilities
1. Provide specialist advice on cadastral and geodetic records, infrastructure and systems, services, standards, policy,

procedures, and the impact of a spatial digital cadastre on the NT’s geospatial industry.
2. Undertake, supervise or project manage surveys to modernise the cadastral and geodetic framework, as well as the

development of Government land and infrastructure.
3. Support the administration of the statutory functions of the Licensed Surveyors Act, Survey Practice Directions,



and

compliance of land survey matters in associated legislation.
4. Maintain effective governance and reporting systems in all areas of responsibility.
5. Prepare a range of correspondence, reports, or submissions for the development and implementation of land survey

reforms or modernization initiatives in the NT.
6. Ensure effective collaborative partnerships with key stakeholders to undertake effective consultation and support

implementation of initiatives and new policies.
7. Actively participate in Survey Branch initiatives, relevant professional or industry working groups, and assist with the

professional development and mentoring of the work unit’s Surveyors and Land Information Officers

Selection criteria
Essential
1. Bachelor of Surveying, Spatial Science or equivalent, Geospatial Information Management or equivalent.
2. High level contemporary knowledge and proven technical capability in cadastral and geodetic surveying; geospatial or

survey data analysis and management; digital plan lodgement; related applications, including information systems; and
maintenance of land survey records, and datasets.

3. Comprehensive operational knowledge and experience with the survey aspects pertaining to land administration, tenure
and titling, and the development of land.

4. Sound knowledge and experience of pertinent legislation, policies, standards, practices and guidelines associated with
land surveying, and its practical implementation.

5. Proven contract and project management capability.
6. Demonstrated communication (oral and written), interpersonal and negotiation skills with the ability to consult,

influence, mentor and interact effectively with people of diverse cultures or professional backgrounds.
7. Knowledge and awareness of political, social, economic, and technical issues that impact land survey, development and

titling matters.

Desirable
1. Eligible to be registered as a Licensed Surveyor in the NT.
