ABOUT THE ROLE

Ngala is currently recruiting for a Mental Health Clinician. The Mental Health clinician will be responsible for delivering timely, family-centred, and trauma-informed intake and assessment support for parents and infants/children (aged 0–6 years).

What You'll Do

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

- Undertake comprehensive mental health assessments for parents and infants/children aged 0–6 years.
- Apply trauma-informed, attachment-based, and culturally responsive frameworks in all client interactions.
- Review and triage referrals with clinical sensitivity, working collaboratively with families and colleagues to determine the most appropriate service pathways.
- Establish and maintain trusting, respectful relationships with families, creating a safe space for exploration, reflection, and healing.
- Liaise effectively with internal Ngala teams—including Parenting Line, Early Parenting Groups, and Residential Services—as well as external partners such as Child Health Nurses, GP’S Aboriginal Health Services, and other community-based providers.
- Complete accurate, timely, and professional documentation in accordance with Ngala’s clinical governance, quality assurance, and outcome measurement frameworks.

What We’re Looking For

- Knowledge and understanding of mental health issues affecting parents and children aged 0–6 years.




- Demonstrated experience of collaborative person-centred care and treatment planning and working with families, including an awareness of barriers to engagement.
- Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills; particularly an ability to build relationships with people from a wide range of backgrounds and establishing respectful, collaborative relationships.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team and liaise effectively with a range of health and community professionals
- Knowledgeable in child health, early brain development, infant mental health, and topics like sleep, nutrition, and breastfeeding.
- Demonstrated ability to conduct risk assessments and apply safeguarding principles to ensure the safety and wellbeing of children, families, and staff.

Role Requirements

- Current AHPRA registration as a Psychologist or Nurse, or eligible for registration with the Australian Association of Social Workers for Social Workers.
- The incumbent will be required to meet the Health Worker (Restrictions on Access) Directions
- Possession of a current National Police Certificate (obtained within the last 6 months).
- Possession of a Working with Children Check Clearance
