THE ROLE

The School Assistant – TAS Workshop Student Support provides in-class support to students with identified learning needs within Technology and Applied Studies (TAS) classrooms and workshop environments. Working under the direction of the classroom teacher, the role assists students to engage safely and successfully in practical learning activities while promoting independence, participation, and positive learning outcomes.

The School Assistant reports to the Learning Support Coordinator and works closely with TAS teachers and the Head of Technology and Applied Studies to support student learning and wellbeing. The role requires a commitment to maintaining a strong culture of workplace health and safety and supporting safe practices in workshop and practical learning environments.

This is a fixed-term relief role from 17 August - 14 September 2026.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

The key responsibilities of the role include (but are not limited to):

Student Learning Support

- Provide learning support to students with identified learning needs in TAS classrooms and workshop environments under the direction of the classroom teacher.

- Assist students to access curriculum activities, follow teacher instructions, and engage positively in practical learning experiences.





- Support students to develop independence, confidence, organisation, and task-completion skills.

- Provide individual and small-group support as directed by the classroom teacher and Learning Support Coordinator.

- Assist with the implementation of reasonable adjustments and support strategies identified for students.

- Encourage positive behaviour and student engagement consistent with College expectations.

Classroom and Workshop Support

- Assist teachers with the preparation and organisation of materials, equipment, tools, and resources for practical lessons.

- Support the safe setup, use, and pack-up of workshop equipment and learning spaces.

- Reinforce safe work practices and workshop procedures with students in accordance with teacher direction.

- Assist in maintaining a safe, organised, and productive learning setting.

- Monitor student adherence to safety requirements during practical activities and report concerns promptly to the supervising teacher.

Safety and Compliance

- Model and promote a strong culture of workplace health and safety.

- Support the implementation of risk management and safety procedures within TAS learning environments.

- Follow all College policies, workshop rules, and WHS requirements.

- Report hazards, incidents, equipment concerns, and unsafe behaviours promptly through appropriate channels.

REQUIREMENTS

- Experience working with young people in an educational, community, sporting, or youth-support setting.

- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and under the direction of teachers.

- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.





- Demonstrated commitment to supporting students with diverse learning needs.

- Experience working with machinery, tools, equipment, or practical workshop environments.

- Demonstrated understanding of, and commitment to, safe work practices and maintaining a positive safety culture.

- Ability to follow safety procedures and support students in practical learning environments.

- Current Working with Children Check and any other requirements specified by the College.

- Attendance at appropriate professional development activities relating to teaching.

- Awareness of NESA syllabus documents.

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

- Experience supporting students with disability or additional learning needs.

- Previous experience in a school, trade, manufacturing, engineering, construction, or workshop environment.

- Relevant qualifications or training in education support, youth work, trades, technology, or related fields.

- First Aid qualifications.

REMUNERATION

Terms and Conditions of employment will be in accordance with the ‘Anglican Schools Commission Inc. NSW Enterprise Agreement 2023’. Remuneration will be determined by the Principal according to qualifications and experience.
