Barker Trailers, a family-owned Australian manufacturer of truck trailers operating since 1974, is seeking a Fabricator/Welder to join their heavy engineering workshop in Woodend.
What the role involves
You’ll work in a quick-paced manufacturing environment doing:
Reading and interpreting technical drawings and specifications
Laying out, fitting, and assembling metal components
MIG welding, oxy cutting, grinding, and general fabrication
Aligning and welding parts into complete trailer units
Inspecting weld quality against specifications
Operating fabrication machinery and tools
What they’re looking for
MIG welding or metal fabrication experience (trade qualification is a bonus but not essential)
Positive, reliable, and punctual attitude
Strong safety mindset
Ability to work in a team and solve problems
Willingness to learn and develop skills
Reliable transport to Woodend

You’ll need to pass a health assessment (to confirm you’re fit for physical workshop work) and provide a criminal history check before being hired.
· Welding test as part of recruitment
Expect a practical skills test—likely MIG welding and/or fabrication tasks. They’ll assess things like weld quality, accuracy, safety, and ability to follow drawings or instructions.
