Are you a skilled cyber security skilled ready to elevate enterprise threat defence? We are looking for a Cyber Defence Engineer to join our Transformation & Technology team. This role is perfect for a proactive specialist who excels in incident response, automated detection engineering and collaborating with cross-functional teams to strengthen digital security resilience.

Role: Cyber Defence Engineer

Location: Canberra or Sydney -Hybrid

Job Type: Contract until Dec 26 (6 months)

Start Date: ASAP

Responsibilities:
Incident Response & Investigation: Lead cyber incident triage, investigation, remediation, root cause analysis and post-incident reporting.
Detection: Build and fine-tune detection use cases using frameworks to identify anomalies and security threats.
Automation Development: Design automated workflows in SIEM platforms (Splunk or Sentinel) to streamline incident handling and cut response times.
Compliance & Threat Intelligence: Monitor security threats, collaborate with industry groups and support audit/regulatory compliance efforts.




Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with teams to shape DevSecOps capabilities, maintain security documentation and provide guidance to junior staff.

Experience:
SecOps Experience: Experience in Cyber Security Operations, specialising in Incident Response, Detection Engineering, SIEM or Automation.
Scripting & Tooling: Strong scripting abilities in Python, Bash, or PowerShell, alongside hands-on experience with SIEM platforms (Splunk/Sentinel) and detection engineering.
Frameworks & Standards: Deep familiarity with security frameworks and compliance standards (e.g., NIST, MITRE ATT&CK;, ASD Essential 8, APRA CPS 234, ISM).
Enterprise Security Tech: Exposure to enterprise security solutions including IAM, Endpoint Protection, DLP, Vulnerability Management and AppSec testing (SAST/DAST).
Communication & Mentorship: Solid problem-solving skills with a proven track record of guiding junior team members and engaging effectively with stakeholders.
