Role Description:
The Platform Technician provides expert diagnostics, maintenance, and technical support across naval propulsion, power generation, and auxiliary systems, primarily for ANZAC-class platforms.
Operating with a high degree of autonomy, the role undertakes complex fault-finding, performance testing, and system optimisation.
While not managing direct reports, the position serves as a key technical advisor, working closely with engineering teams, operational staff, and external stakeholders to ensure vessel safety, reliability, and readiness.
Core Duties:
Deliver specialist diagnostics, maintenance, and performance testing across propulsion, power, and auxiliary systems
Ensure all work meets high standards of safety, quality, accuracy, and compliance
Provide technical expertise and guidance, supporting decision-making and maintenance approaches
Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to resolve complex technical issues
Support system reliability and operational readiness, including urgent defect rectification
Manage own workload and priorities effectively in energetic,



autonomous environments
Communicate technical information clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences
Drive continuous improvement by identifying issues and implementing better solutions
Essential Skills:
Trade qualification or diploma in Marine, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering
Relevant Defence or maritime certifications aligned to propulsion and power systems
Additional specialist training in gas turbine or naval systems
Proven experience working with naval propulsion systems, ideally on ANZAC-class platforms
Demonstrated expertise in power generation systems, including alternators and load testing
Strong hands-on experience with gas turbine systems and associated control and monitoring equipment
Demonstrated capability in complex fault diagnosis across mechanical and electrical systems
Ability to operate effectively in autonomous, high-pressure, and operational environments
Experience within the Royal Australian Navy, particularly in marine technical roles, is highly regarded
