About the Role
The Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District Alcohol and Other Drugs Service offers free, non-judgmental services and treatments for drug and/or alcohol use, including information and support for families.
Our service offers specialist drug and alcohol doctors, nurses and allied health staff who respect the client's right to choose from a range of treatments under a philosophy of harm reduction.
We are seeking a passionate and dedicated clinician to join our Forensic Drug and Alcohol Service, providing specialist case management and counselling to clients participating in the MERIT and Drug Court programs.
In this unique role you will work at the intersection of health and justice, supporting individuals whose substance use has contributed to involvement with the criminal justice system.
The position involves working closely with clients to address substance use issues, promote recovery, reduce reoffending, and improve long‐term health and social outcomes through evidence‐based interventions, therapeutic relationships, coordinated care across services and navigation of complex challenges.
What You Will Bring to the Role
Degree or post‐graduate degree and professional registration/membership in Occupation Therapy (Board of Australia), Social Work (full membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers), Counsellor (minimum AQF level 7 recognized by the Peak Body PACFA), or Registered Nurse (APHRA registration)




Demonstrated clinical experience in the provision of assessment and evidence‐based interventions for alcohol and other drug‐using clients
Ability to liaise with a range of internal and external stakeholders, focusing on Local Health District services, Criminal Justice System and community‐based support services
Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team in providing drug and alcohol services to court‐mandated clients
High‐quality computer literacy, written and verbal communication, including preparation of court reports and clinical notes
Experience or strong commitment to working with individuals and families from Indigenous backgrounds and/or diverse cultural backgrounds
Capability to work with minimal supervision
Current Driver's Licence and willingness to travel for work purposes
