APS6 Veteran and Family Support Officer, Veteran and Family Wellbeing AgencyThe APS 6 Veteran and Family Support Officer (VFSO) role will support APS 5 VFSOs to provide an outreach service in a variety of locations inclusive of ADF bases, industry employers, Ex‐Service Organisations (ESOs) and regional communities of identified need.
This approach to servicing the veteran community is termed the hub‐and‐spoke model.
The role will involve ongoing reporting to support decisions that inform the national roll‐out of other hub‐and‐spoke locations to support ADF personnel.The VFSO must have a sound appreciation of veterans and families of veterans' individual circumstances, working to provide expert advice at the right time with an ability to translate this into guidance for next steps within the Agency or referral to business‐as‐usual arrangements within DVA.
The role requires leadership skills, excellent organisational skills and an ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of stakeholders.The VFSO is responsible for leading and developing the performance of other staff, directing workflow and managing team resources to ensure the Agency's business targets are met.
In this they work closely with ADF command, ADF Joint Health Command and other Defence support elements and processing areas within DVA.




This will often be achieved working autonomously on military bases or in conjunction with other Agency teams.The VFSO may also have the opportunity to supervise a team of staff who assist with developing and maintaining a national training continuum and Quality Assurance Framework, or a team who manage the flow of information and data provided to DVA from Defence via the Defence Notifications framework.
In this, the VFSO will support and provide guidance to other Agency teams to maintain a positive appreciation of detail, design and review training documentation, communicate with a broad range of stakeholders, and provide administrative support to the broader Agency.DVA embraces and fosters a culture that supports diversity, inclusion and respect, where people are empowered to fulfil their potential.
