Katherine Town Council is seeking an enthusiastic and highly organised Human Resource Officer to join our People and Culture team.
Reporting to the Manager People and Culture, this diverse and rewarding role is responsible for delivering payroll services, supporting recruitment and onboarding activities, maintaining HR systems, coordinating training programs and assisting with workforce compliance initiatives across Council.
This is an excellent prospect for a motivated HR professional who enjoys working across the full employee lifecycle and making a positive contribution to organisational culture and service delivery.

About The Role
As the Human Resource Officer, you will:
Payroll
Process end-to-end fortnightly payroll and payroll adjustmentsExperience with payroll system software is essential for effective processing and management of employee paymentsInterpret Enterprise Agreements, awards, legislation and employment contractsMaintain employee records and payroll master filesAdminister leave entitlements, salary packaging and payroll reportingRespond to employee payroll enquiries and provide guidance to staff
Human Resources
Assist with recruitment, advertising, onboarding and induction activitiesMaintain HR records,



forms and documentationAdminister HR systems and ensure ongoing complianceCoordinate Council's training and development programMaintain training records and coordinate skills gap analysis activitiesProvide support and advice to employees regarding HR policies, procedures and systemsAssist with workforce planning and employee engagement initiativesSupport workplace health and safety administration activities
About You
To be successful in this role, you will have:
Previous experience in Human Resources, Payroll, Administration or a related fieldA minimum of 1-2 years of experience in Human Resources, Payroll, Administration or related fieldStrong understanding of payroll processes and employment conditionsExcellent attention to detail and ability to maintain confidential informationWell-developed analytical and problem-solving skillsStrong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlinesExperience preparing reports and reviewing data for accuracy and complianceConfidence communicating with employees, managers and external stakeholdersAbility to interpret and explain policies, procedures and legislationValid Australian work authorisation is required for this position
Desirable Qualifications And Experience
Certificate IV or higher qualification in Human Resources, Business Administration, Payroll, Finance or a related disciplinePrevious Local Government experienceExperience using Xero, payroll and workforce management systemsCurrent NT Driver Licence
