About the role
The Justice Health and Wellbeing Service delivers holistic, evidence-based and culturally responsive health care and wellbeing services for patients and clients across the Western Australian custodial estate.
Delivering high-quality care in complex and restrictive environments, the Service encompasses primary health care; mental health care; alcohol and other drug services; psychological, prevention and wellbeing services; pharmacy services; allied health care and tertiary care referral services.
With entry to prison marking the first opportunity for many of our patients and clients to receive health and wellbeing assistance, our Service acts as a crucial intervention point for a population with complex physical, mental and spiritual needs.
The Deputy Director Medical Services:
works under the direction of the Director Medical Services (DMS) to monitor adherence to clinical policy, procedures and standards, providing assurance of the medical services delivered by health operations
provides high level clinical and strategic support for the DMS to ensure high standard of clinical management and governance within prison health services
supports the operational management, development and delivery of integrated best practice prison health services and provides clinical expertise to the Clinical Governance Advisory Committee and subcommittees on matters related to the medical profession
is accountable for recommending evidence-based improvements, considering best practice to achieve improved health outcomes and efficiencies as appropriate
provides clinical input to primary health care operations as well as providing clinical input on health needs analysis delivered by health operations and reviewing and recommending medical standards, clinical standards (including drug regimes)



and evidence based clinical improvements
provides strategic and operational support for the DMS for Population Health program management within Prison Health Services, maintaining an expert awareness of industry research, trends, issues and developments in relation to Population Health, at state, national and international levels and contributes to relevant organisation strategies
Benefits and Opportunities
Monday to Friday 80 hours a fortnight, excluding weekends and public holidays.
Career development Allowance of $32,360 per year.
On call allowance for rostered after hours on-call (Departmental mobile phone provided) with generous call back allowance payable if work is undertaken.
10 days Professional Development (PD) Leave or prorate equivalent and 2 days Public Service holidays where applicable.
13 weeks Long Service Leave accrual after seven years' service or prorate equivalent.
