Are you passionate about integrity, accountability and continuous improvement?
We are seeking a Governance Officer to join our Governance and Risk team and help strengthen Council's corporate governance framework.
In this role, you will contribute to policy development, legislative compliance, statutory reporting, delegations and governance projects that support transparency, accountability and effective decision making across the organisation.
About the Role
Reporting to the Chief Governance and Risk Officer, you will provide governance support across a broad range of activities, including policy management, legislative compliance, statutory reporting, delegations and governance projects.
Working collaboratively with stakeholders across Council, you will help ensure strong governance practices and compliance with legislative obligations.
Key Responsibilities
Support the implementation and ongoing improvement of Council's Corporate Governance Framework and related governance initiatives.
Conduct research and prepare reports, briefings, correspondence, policies, procedures, and other governance documentation.
Interpret and apply relevant legislation, regulations and guidelines to support governance, compliance and risk management outcomes.
Coordinate statutory reporting and support compliance obligations with oversight bodies, including the Office of Local Government, NSW Ombudsman and Information and Privacy Commission.
Maintain and administer Council's Delegations Management System, including reviewing,



updating, and drafting delegations.
Develop and maintain governance registers, policy documents and web content to ensure accuracy, accessibility and compliance.
Assist with governance and risk projects, stakeholder enquiries, and the development of training and educational resources that promote governance awareness and capability across Council.
What We Are Looking For
We're seeking a proactive and detail-oriented professional with a strong understanding of governance, compliance and legislative requirements.
You will have excellent communication skills, sound judgement and the ability to build effective relationships across a diverse range of stakeholders.
To be successful in this role, you will have:
Tertiary qualifications in Law, Local Government, Business, Public Administration or a related discipline, or equivalent demonstrated experience.
Strong communication, stakeholder engagement and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build productive working relationships and prepare high-quality reports, correspondence and governance documentation.
Demonstrated ability to research, interpret and apply legislation, regulations and policy requirements,



and translate complex information into practical outcomes.
Well-developed analytical, organisational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities, work autonomously and consistently meet deadlines.
A commitment to delivering excellent customer service, maintaining high standards of accuracy, and achieving quality outcomes.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and the ability to learn and use a range of corporate systems and technology platforms.
What We Offer
Salary from $78,****** to 91,****** gross per annum, plus 12% superannuation
Permanent full-time role (35 hours per week)
