Us.The Rockhampton Women's Shelter is a community focused organisation dedicated to providing short-term crisis accommodation and support to women and their children escaping domestic and family violence.
We are committed to empowering individuals to rebuild their lives in a safe and supportive environment.
The Role.We are seeking a compassionate and resilientSpecialist Domestic and Family Violence Support Workerto provide practical and emotional support to women and children, helping them navigate through immediate crisis while creating pathways for long-term safety and stability.
The position is 76 hours per fortnight onsite with additional on-call responsibilities on a rotating roster.

Key Responsibilities.
Provide case management and tailored support that is client informed and culturally appropriate.
Conduct comprehensive risk assessments and safety planning to address immediate and ongoing needs.
Facilitate access to relevant services including legal, housing, healthcare and financial support.
Deliver trauma-informed care, ensuring sensitivity to the unique experiences of each client.
Work collaboratively with external agencies to enhance service delivery and outcomes.
Support women and children to build resilience, self-esteem and independence.
Maintain accurate and confidential records in accordance with organisational policies.
Contribute positively to the team environment by actively participating in teamwork processes, peer support and casework review.
Extend knowledge base and sustain a high level of service delivery through training and development opportunities.
Support and participate in fundraising and community awareness events.
You.As an important member of a small but agile team,



you are a passionate professional with an in-depth understanding of domestic and family violence and you have the ability the to provide client-centered, trauma- informed support.
You thrive in a challenging but rewarding environment and are committed to fostering safety, dignity and empowerment for women and children survivors of domestic and family abuse.
Essential Criteria.
Bachelor of Social Work, Psychology or other Social Science, or working towards with a minimum 2 years.
Current drivers license.
Current Positive Notice of Working with Children Check (Blue Card) or ability to obtain one prior to commencement.
Understanding of relevant legislation including the Domestic and Family Violence Protection Act **** (Qld) and the Domestic and Family Violence Protection Rules **** (Qld).
Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality.
Strong commitment to working from a feminist perspective and to social justice principles.
Ability to work sensitively and effectively with women and children from Indigenous and other cultural backgrounds.
Must have a level of personal fitness that permits physical activity sufficient to assist with the lifting of items including but not limited to client's luggage.
Must have or be willing to obtain a current Senior First Aid Certificate.
Desirable Criteria.
Knowledge of crisis intervention, case management, trauma-informed practices and risk assessment.
High level of interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build trust and rapport.
Capacity to manage complex situations with professionalism and empathy.
Knowledge of local resources and support networks.
Competence with technology systems.
