Wanaruah Local Aborignial Land Council Ranger Program
We are seeking a passionate and motivated Rangers to join our program.
This is an exciting opportunity to care for country and strengthen cultural knowledge, protect our natural and cultural heritage, and contribute to the wellbeing of our community.
As an Aboriginal Ranger, you will work alongside Elders, community members and partner organisations to deliver environmental, cultural and land management activities while developing valuable skills and qualifications.
Core Ranger Duties
Rangers are responsible for the care, protection, and sustainable management of Country.
Duties may include, but are not limited to:
1. Fencing and Infrastructure Maintenance
· Construction, repair, and maintenance of boundary and internal fencing
· Installation and upkeep of gates, signage, and access control points
· Ensuring infrastructure supports land management and cultural site protection
2. Weed Management and Spraying
· Identification and monitoring of invasive weed species
· Application of herbicides in accordance with environmental regulations and safety guidelines
· Use and maintenance of spraying equipment
· Recording and reporting of treatment areas and outcomes
3. Seed Collection and Revegetation
· Collection of native seeds in line with seasonal and cultural protocols
· Processing, storage, and documentation of seed stock
· Participation in revegetation and habitat restoration activities
· Supporting biodiversity and ecosystem recovery on Country
4. Cultural Site Protection and Land Care
· Assisting in the identification and preservation of culturally significant sites
· Working in accordance with cultural heritage management plans




· Supporting Traditional Owners in on-Country activities
5. Fire Management and Land Management Activities
· Participation in hazard reduction and cultural burning where appropriate
· Assisting in firebreak maintenance and fire preparedness
· Supporting broader land management strategies
6. General On-Country Work
· Track maintenance and erosion control
· Rubbish removal and site clean-up
· Monitoring of flora, fauna, and environmental conditions
· Use of tools, machinery, and vehicles in a secure and responsible manner
Training and Workforce Prioritisation
To ensure safe, effective, and compliant delivery of services:
Driver's license is essential.
· Priority will be given to Ranger staff who have completed relevant training aligned with specific job requirements and contractual obligations.
· Required training may include (but is not limited to):
o Chemical handling and application certification
o Chainsaw and machinery operation tickets
o First Aid certification
o Cultural heritage awareness
o Fire management training
· Rangers are encouraged to undertake ongoing professional development to build skills and maintain eligibility for a wide range of tasks.
Work Health and Safety (WHS)
All Rangers must:
· Follow established Work Health and Safety procedures
· Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE)
· Report hazards, incidents, and near misses
· Participate in safety briefings and training
