Job DescriptionTheOperations Engineerwill be based atViva Energy Australia at our Geelong Refinery.You will play a critical role in supporting the reliability, availability, and lifecycle management of essentialInformation Technology (IT)andOperational Technology (OT)systems across the refinery and associated supply chain infrastructure.
This role ensures the stability, security, and compliance of network, server, application, and data centre environments that underpinsafe,



continuous refinery operations.
A key focus of the role is providinghands‐on infrastructure and systems supportto refinery operations teams, including the Control Room, Field Operations, Laboratories, and Reliability teams.
Working at the intersection ofindustrial operations, cyber security, and enterprise infrastructure, the Operations Engineer is responsible for maintaining secure integration between refinery OT systems and Viva Energy's enterprise IT platforms, always ensuring operational resilience and performance.
Responsibilities & Requirements
Provide hands‐on operational support for core IT and OT systems supporting refinery and supply chain operations.
Support and maintain critical platforms including process historians, refinery operations systems, machinery monitoring, and industrial applications at the IT/OT boundary.
Own incident response, troubleshooting, vendor engagement, and system availability for operationally critical environments.
Support network operations across refinery and remote sites, including switching, firewalls, segmentation, patching, and monitoring.
Act as a senior technical escalation point for incidents, changes, and problem management, aligned to ITIL, ServiceNow, MYOSH, and MOC processes.
Provide on‐site and on‐call support to Control Room and operations teams,



responding calmly to high‐impact operational events.
Support IT/OT integration, ensuring secure connectivity between control systems, historians, and enterprise platforms in line with IEC *****.
Maintain and support server, virtualisation, and data centre environments, including VMware and associated infrastructure.
Contribute to lifecycle management, technology refresh, and operational resilience initiatives.
Support refinery cyber security compliance, vulnerability remediation, and assurance activities (SOCI Act, Essential Eight).
QualificationsEssential
Strong experience supportingenterprise and industrial IT infrastructurein operational or critical environments.
Hands‐on experience withnetworking, servers, virtualisation, firewalls, and endpoint platforms.
Experience supportingWindows and Linuxenvironments.
Strong troubleshooting, incident response, and stakeholder communication skills.
Familiarity withIT/OT integrationand operating in safety‐critical environments.
Desirable
Experience inrefinery, oil & gas, utilities, or heavy industrialenvironments.
Exposure toOT systems, control networks, or industrial applications.
Relevant certifications (Cisco, VMware, Microsoft, cyber/security platforms).
