We are seeking an experienced Senior Refrigeration Mechanic to join a highly skilled Operations & Maintenance team based in Alice Springs.
This is a rare opportunity to work within a secure, mission-critical setting where reliability, technical excellence, and teamwork are essential.
As a key member of a multi-disciplinary maintenance team, you will be responsible for maintaining and improving critical HVAC infrastructure and facility systems, ensuring operational continuity across a complex and technically advanced site.
This includes, but is not limited to, maintenance of large chillers, DX refrigeration equipment, chilled water-cooling systems and residential air conditioning systems.
In addition to hands-on maintenance activities, you will provide technical leadership, mentor junior tradespeople, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
About the Role
Reporting into the Operations & Maintenance team, your responsibilities will include:
Performing maintenance tasks as required; either predictive, corrective or preventative maintenance to reduce downtime and improve efficiency.
Execute rapid and reliable response to abnormal facility operational situations and emergencies; including equipment repair when necessary.
Provide technical guidance in resolving complex plant breakdowns, contributing to the continual growth of knowledge within the O&M; team.
Diagnose, repair, and maintain a variety of complex commercial and industrial refrigeration equipment, including chillers, freezers, and air conditioning units.
Maintain a complete and current working understanding of all relevant facilities infrastructure, equipment and systems.
Interpret technical drawings,
schematics, and manuals.
Replace or upgrade worn parts, motors, valve, and control units as needed.
Conduct leak detection, pressure testing and re-gassing in accordance to environmental standards.
Responsible for the accurate and timely completion of job-related documents, such as Work Orders, time sheets and safety reports.
Job-related documentation requires inputting and processing information from paper Work Orders into digital systems.
Ensure compliance with all safety regulations, industry standards, and environmental requirements.
Ensure, promote, and maintain health and safety practices/compliances at site and within the workplace.
About You
You are an experienced Refrigeration Mechanic with strong technical capability, leadership qualities, and a commitment to safety and operational excellence.
To be successful, you will possess:
Minimum 10 years' post-trade experience
Strong technical knowledge of refrigeration and air conditioning systems and components
Strong understanding of Work Health Safety (WHS) Act, and EHS policies & procedures
Demonstrated understanding and experience working within Facility Maintenance or similar technical environment
Strong understanding and knowledge of technical terminology relating to Electrical infrastructure and electronic equipment
Strong understanding of facilities equipment and functionality
Robust knowledge of the environmental impacts and legislative requirements regarding ozone depleting substances;
Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot complex problems quickly and effectively
Strong understanding of equipment maintenance requirements (preventive, predictive, & corrective);
Demonstrated understanding of 110V (US) power, or willingness to learn
Demonstrated high level of problem solving, decision making and analytical skills
Training and experience in refrigerant recovery
Experience of correct storage, handling and disposal procedures for refrigerants
Demonstrate leadership skills, assisting in the continual growth and knowledge of Refrigeration Technicians;
Licences & Certifications
Essential:
Australian candidates must hold and be able to maintain an Australian "Restricted" Grade Electrical License,
Australian candidates must hold a minimum CERT III in Refrigeration and Air Conditioning
Australian candidates must hold ARCtick RAC01 Full Refrigeration and Airconditioning Licence

Due to the nature of this role, successful applicants must be eligible to obtain and maintain Australian Government security clearances.
The employee will initially require a NV1 with the intent of applying for a Top-Secret Positive Vetting (TSPV) Department of Defense Security Clearance (Australian) or TS/SCI (U.S.) clearance.
