POSITION: PAYROLL MANAGER

Mai Wiru Regional Stores Council Aboriginal Corporation (Mai Wiru) specialises in the management of community retail stores and wholesale distribution across the APY Lands and surrounding remote Indigenous communities through its sister company, Palya Wholesale.
We are seeking an experienced and highly organisedPayroll Managerto lead our payroll function and ensure the accurate, timely and compliant processing of payroll across the Mai Wiru Enterprise.
Based inAdelaide, S.A.,this role is responsible for managing the end-to-end payroll function for a diverse workforce operating across multiple remote locations.
Reporting to the Office Manager, you will work closely with Finance, Human Resources and operational managers to ensure payroll processes are efficient, compliant and continuously improving.

ABOUT THE ROLE
The Payroll Manager is responsible for the delivery of accurate, efficient and compliant payroll services across the Mai Wiru Enterprise.
The position oversees the complete payroll lifecycle and ensures compliance with relevant legislation, Modern Awards, Enterprise Agreements and organisational policies.
The Payroll Manager will also play a key role in improving payroll systems, processes and reporting while maintaining strong relationships with managers across the organisation.

Hero Pay
Xero Payroll & Accounting
Experience with these systems, or comparable cloud-based payroll platforms, will be highly regarded.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
The Payroll Manager will be responsible for:




Managing the end-to-end weekly and fortnightly payroll processes across the organisation.
Ensuring employees are paid accurately and on time, including wages, salaries, allowances, overtime, deductions and leave entitlements.
Maintaining employee payroll records within Xero, Employment Hero, and Hero Pay.
Processing new starters, terminations, salary changes and employment variations.
Ensuring compliance with the Fair Work Act, National Employment Standards, taxation legislation, superannuation obligations and applicable Awards and Enterprise Agreements.
Managing PAYG withholding, payroll tax, superannuation contributions and Single Touch Payroll (STP) reporting.
Performing payroll reconciliations and assisting with month-end and year-end reporting.
Preparing payroll journals and supporting Finance with payroll-related accounting requirements in Xero.
Managing annual payment summaries, payroll reporting and audit requirements.
Responding to payroll enquiries from employees and managers in a professional and timely manner.
Developing and maintaining payroll policies, procedures and internal controls.
Identifying opportunities to improve payroll processes, automation and system efficiencies.
Working collaboratively with Human Resources to ensure employee data remains accurate throughout the employment lifecycle.
Supporting external auditors and ensuring payroll compliance with funding and governance requirements.
Maintaining strict confidentiality of employee information.
KEY SELECTION CRITERIA




To be successful in this role, you will possess:
Demonstrated experience in an end-to-end Payroll Manager or Senior Payroll Officer position.
Robust knowledge of Australian payroll legislation, taxation, superannuation and Fair Work requirements.
Proven experience interpreting Modern Awards and Enterprise Agreements.
Experience processing payroll within cloud-based payroll systems, preferably Employment Hero, Hero Pay and Xero.
Excellent reconciliation and analytical skills with exceptional attention to detail.
Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
Strong organisational and time management skills with the ability to meet strict payroll deadlines.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build positive working relationships across multiple departments.
High levels of integrity, professionalism and confidentiality.
A proactive approach to identifying improvements and implementing best practice payroll processes.
Experience working within a not-for-profit or Indigenous organisation will be highly regarded.
CERTIFICATES / LICENCES
Current National Police Clearance (or ability to obtain)
