Position Purpose
The Finance and Business Manager is responsible for overseeing the financial management, business operations, and administrative functions of the school.
The role ensures the effective management of financial systems, financial compliance obligations, budgeting, payroll, bookkeeping, and operational support services to maintain the financial sustainability and efficient operation of the school.
The position works closely with the Principal and School Board to provide strategic financial advice, accurate reporting, and operational leadership aligned with the school's values and objectives.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Management
Prepare and manage the school's annual budget in consultation with the Principal.
Monitor cash flow, financial performance, and expenditure against budget.
Prepare monthly financial reports, management accounts, and forecasts.
Provide financial analysis and recommendations to support strategic decision making.
Coordinate annual audits and liaise with external auditor.
Ensure compliance with all financial regulations, funding agreements, and reporting obligations.
Maintain appropriate financial controls and risk management processes.
Human Resource Management
Manage end to end recruitment processes including advertising, screening, interviews, and appointment documentation.
Prepare employment contracts, variations, and position descriptions.
Maintain employee records and ensure compliance with employment legislation and award conditions.
Oversee onboarding and induction processes for new staff.




Manage staff leave records and payroll related HR data.
Assist with advice on workplace policies, procedures, and employment matters.
Support management of workplace issues, grievances, and disciplinary processes in consultation with the Principal.
Bookkeeping and Accounting
Process day to day bookkeeping functions using MYOB accounting software.
Process accounts payable and receivable.
Reconcile bank accounts, credit cards, and general ledger accounts.
Maintain accurate financial records and documentation.
Process payroll, superannuation, PAYG, and payroll reporting obligations.
Prepare and lodge BAS, IAS, and other statutory returns.
Manage school fee invoicing and collections using Compass software.
Maintain asset registers and financial records.
Funding and Compliance
Administer government funding acquittals and reporting requirements.
Ensure compliance with education funding agreements and financial accountability standards.
Coordinate financial data and documentation for regulatory authorities.
Support the preparation of census and other funding related submissions.
Business and Operational Management
Oversee school administration systems and operational procedures.
Assist with human resource administration, employment documentation, and staff onboarding.
Manage contracts, leases, insurances, and service agreements.
Coordinate procurement processes and supplier relationships.
Contribute to policy development and continuous improvement initiatives.
Key Skills and Experience
Demonstrated experience in financial management and bookkeeping.




Experience in human resource administration and employment processes.
Experience in an education or not for profit environment is highly desirable.
Strong knowledge of accounting principles, payroll, and compliance obligations.
Proficiency in MYOB accounting software and Microsoft Office applications.
High level analytical, organisational, and problem-solving skills.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise professional judgement.
Capacity to work independently and manage competing priorities.
Qualifications
Degree Qualified in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related discipline.

Conditions of Employment
Employment conditions are in accordance with applicable legislation, school policies, and employment agreements.
The school reserves the right to amend this position description in consultation with the employee to meet operational requirements andChild Safety Requirements.
The Finance and Business Manager is employed on a full time basis and is entitled to:
Four (4) weeks of annual leave per year, accrued progressively in accordance with the National Employment Standards (NES).
Four (4) weeks of additional paid leave, with this leave accrued and managed in accordance with the employment contract.
