Cook Shire Council is seeking a motivated Waste Management Operator to join our team at the Cooktown Waste Transfer Station.
About The Role
Reporting to the Waste Management Coordinator, you'll play a key role in the day-to-day operation of Council's waste facilities.
You'll operate plant and equipment, assist customers, promote recycling and resource recovery, maintain accurate records, and help ensure our facilities remain safe, compliant and efficient.

What You'll Be Doing
Operate plant and machinery, Perform routine plant inspections and report maintenance requirements.Provide excellent customer service, collect gate fees, tracking contractor coordination and direct site traffic safely.Promote waste separation, recycling and resource recovery initiatives.Safely handle and manage regulated waste in accordance with environmental legislation.Provide relief at other waste facilities across the Cook Shire as required.Contribute to maintaining clean, secure and compliant waste management facilities.
What You'll Need
Current Class C and HR Driver's Licence.Plant operation competency (skid steer and excavator) or the ability to obtain it.Construction White Card.Great customer service and communication skills.A strong commitment to workplace safety.Waste management experience (desirable, not essential).
