About the role
This is an key leadership role within the Finance team, responsible for the accurate, compliant and timely delivery of payroll for approximately 140 employees across multiple locations, while overseeing Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable and Cash Management activities.
This role offers a unique opportunity to build on your payroll expertise while expanding your leadership responsibilities across broader financial services (Accounts Payable & Receivable) activities.
Whether you are looking to broaden your experience beyond payroll or already bring exposure to financial services, you will play a key role in strengthening controls, improving processes, enhancing systems and developing team capability to support the continued evolution of the function.
About you
We are seeking an experienced Australian payroll professional with a strong track record of leading payroll functions, modernising processes and embedding best-practice payroll operations.
You enjoy leading people, solving problems and improving the way work gets done.
And while this is a leadership role, you will remain hands-on, providing oversight and support for complex payroll matters, compliance requirements and critical processing activities.
Key Responsibilities:
Payroll Leadership
Lead the delivery of payroll operations, ensuring accuracy, compliance and a high standard of employee service.
Act as the organisation's payroll subject matter expert, maintaining deep knowledge of Australian payroll legislation, taxation, superannuation, payroll tax, salary packaging and employment obligations.
Ensure compliance with legislation, Enterprise Agreements, policies and internal controls.
Manage statutory obligations including PAYG, superannuation, payroll tax, FBT, salary packaging and leave accruals, ensuring payroll processes remain compliant and aligned to best practice.
Maintain payroll system integrity, governance and audit readiness.




Act as the escalation point for complex payroll matters, audits and compliance requirements, including evolving legislative changes.
Financial Services Oversight
Oversee Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable and Cash Management activities.
Ensure efficient and accurate supplier onboarding, invoice processing, collections, payments and bank reconciliations.
Maintain robust financial controls, segregation of duties and governance frameworks.
Leadership & Continuous Improvement
Lead, coach and develop a small team, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration and customer service (3 direct reports).
Identify opportunities to improve processes through automation, system enhancements and improved ways of working.
Support ERP and payroll system enhancements, testing and change initiatives.
Build strong relationships with stakeholders across the business.
Essential Experience & Skills
Strong experience leading a payroll function within an Australian payroll environment.
Demonstrated expertise in Australian payroll legislation, awards and agreements, taxation, superannuation and statutory reporting obligations.
Proven experience modernising payroll processes and implementing best-practice payroll controls, governance and operating models.
Track record leading system improvements, automation initiatives and payroll transformation projects.
Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to influence and build credibility across all levels of the organisation.
High attention to detail, coupled with a mindset focused on improvement, efficiency and operational excellence.




Demonstrated ability to lead, develop and motivate teams.
Desirable
Experience overseeing or working closely with Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable and Cash Management functions.
Experience with ELMO Payroll, SAP S/4HANA and/or other large ERP platforms.
Experience within the energy, resources or oil and gas sector.
