The role supports the Safety Manager in maintaining and continually improving the organisation's Safety Management System across our Cairns, Townsville and Horn Island operations
The Role
Reporting to the Safety Manager, the Aviation Safety Officer plays an significant role in supporting the delivery and continuous improvement of Hinterland Aviation's Safety Management System.
Working closely with operational departments, you'll assist with safety reporting, investigations, risk management, corrective actions, safety promotion and regulatory compliance.
This is a varied role offering excellent exposure to aviation safety systems and the opportunity to develop into a broader safety and compliance career.
Key Responsibilities
Safety Reporting & Investigations
Process and coordinate internal safety reports
Assist with safety investigations and occurrence reviews
Assign, monitor and follow up corrective actions
Escalate significant safety issues where required
Maintain hazard registers and monitor risk controls
Safety Management System
Support Management of Change (MOC) processes
Assist with operational risk assessments
Conduct operational safety inspections
Support emergency response planning and exercises
Assist with operational security oversight and reporting
Safety Promotion
Develop and promote safety awareness initiatives
Assist with safety communications and training materials
Promote a positive reporting culture throughout the organisation
Administration & Compliance
Maintain accurate safety records and documentation
Assist with regulatory compliance activities
Support audits and safety assurance activities
Utilise safety reporting databases and associated software systems
About You
Qualifications & Experience
Aviation experience is desirable but not essential
Experience in safety, compliance, quality or operational administration will be highly regarded
Safety Management System (SMS) training or qualifications are advantageous (or willingness to undertake training)
Familiarity with CASA regulations is desirable (or willingness to learn)
Ability to obtain and maintain an ASIC
