About Us
Karlup Aboriginal Corporation is an Aboriginal community-controlled organisation based in Midland.
Karlup works to strengthen Aboriginal community leadership, connection and wellbeing through culturally secure services, partnerships and community-led responses.
The organisation is continuing to build its governance, operational capacity and service delivery, creating an significant opportunity for Directors to contribute to Karlup's future direction and long-term sustainability.
Role Objectives
Karlup Aboriginal Corporation is seeking experienced and values-aligned individuals to join its Board and contribute to the organisation's governance, strategic direction and continued development.
Directors work collectively to provide sound oversight of organisational performance, finances, risk, service quality, partnerships and compliance obligations.
The Board has an important role in ensuring Karlup's decisions and activities remain culturally informed, community focused and consistent with the organisation's responsibilities as an Aboriginal corporation.
Karlup welcomes candidates with diverse professional, cultural, community and lived experience, including emerging and younger professionals seeking to build their governance capability.
Skills and Experience Sought
Karlup is seeking Directors who can bring strong community insight, practical experience and professional expertise to support the organisation's next stage of development.
Applicants may bring strengths in one or more of the following areas:
· Aboriginal culture, community leadership and engagement
· Governance and strategic planning
· Finance, budgeting or financial oversight
· Risk management,
compliance and policy
· Human resources, workforce strategy or organisational development
· Community services, housing, homelessness or family support
· Legal or regulatory oversight
· Funding, contracts and government relationships
· Stakeholder partnerships and advocacy
· Lived experience and strong connections within the local community
Key Duties and Responsibilities
· Contribute to Karlup's strategic direction and long-term sustainability.
· Provide oversight of performance, finances, risk and service delivery.
· Ensure decisions are culturally informed and community focused.
· Support compliance with Karlup's Rule Book and legal obligations.
· Prepare for and actively participate in Board meetings.
· Act honestly, independently and in Karlup's best interests.
· Maintain confidentiality and appropriately manage conflicts of interest.
· Support strong relationships with members, community and key partners.
Board Development and Support
Karlup Aboriginal Corporation is committed to supporting suitable candidates through:
· Board and governance training.
Governance education relevant to Aboriginal corporations.
· Mentoring from experienced Directors.
Cultural and organisational orientation.
· Ongoing professional development opportunities.
Previous Board experience is desirable but not essential where applicants can demonstrate relevant skills, community knowledge, leadership potential and a willingness to learn.
