The Role
As part of the state's operations leadership team, the Operations Manager is responsible for planning, engaging and coordinating resources, managing compliance, and achieving performance within budget parameters.
The role demands strong leadership skills to manage personnel effectively, including ensuring safety inductions, training, and compliance.
Key Responsibilities
Manage health and safety in your designation site, driving a safe working culture and responding to safety-related feedback.
Oversee compliance with safety policies and procedures, including hazard identification, incident reporting, and workforce consultation through committees and toolbox talks.
Ensure smooth end-to-end operations at the depot by collaborating with internal teams, franchise partners, and vendors to achieve on-time performance targets, control costs, and deliver an exceptional customer experience.
Oversee bulk collections, ensuring that freight is collected on time and in a cost-effective manner.
This includes coordinating logistics to maintain timely deliveries while managing operational costs.
Ensure daily operations comply with policies, as well as external compliance requirements and limitations.
Develop a network of state contacts to learn and share best demonstrated practices to help drive operational improvement and standard within the state.
Partner with Sales and Customer Service teams to resolve service issues, enhance customer experience,



and participate in customer meetings for large opportunities.
Oversee the operational planning, updating, and maintenance of the Sortation Machine and other automation equipment, ensuring sort plan accuracy and optimisation for maximum throughput.
Foster an engaged, high-performing culture through mentorship and coaching of Shift Supervisors, focusing on customer service and differentiation as an employer.
Oversee payroll processes, ensuring accurate timesheet reviews, leave approvals, and employee changes are processed in a timely manner.
About You
Proven experience in depot, transport, or logistics operations, preferably in a leadership or managerial role
Strong understanding of WHS regulations and a proactive approach to safety management
Demonstrated ability to lead, coach, and develop high-performing teams
Excellent planning, coordination, and problem-solving skills
Solid understanding of compliance, incident reporting, and operational policies
Experience working with franchise models or external vendors is an advantage
Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work across multiple departments and stakeholders
Comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-volume environment with time-sensitive targets
Proficient in using operational systems and automation technology (e.g., sortation equipment)
Ability to manage budgets and control operational costs effectively
High attention to detail and a commitment to continuous improvement
Flexibility to adapt to evolving business needs and priorities
