Summary:
The Cleaner is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for staff, volunteers, and clients of the organisation.
This role supports the effective operation of the organisation by ensuring that all facilities—including offices, meeting spaces, bathrooms, kitchens, and common areas—are cleaned to a high standard and are compliant with Work Health and
Safety (WHS) requirements.
As a member of a not-for-profit organisation, the Cleaner contributes to creating a professional, respectful, and inclusive environment that reflects the organization's mission and values.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Maintain a Clean, Safe and Hygienic Environment
Perform cleaning duties as per roster and various sites of Indigo Junction.
Ensure all surfaces, floors and high-touch points are cleaned and sanitized.
Follow health, hygiene and safety requirements relevant to Non-For-Profit operations (including disability, community or youth services if applicable)
Support a Welcoming and Professional Workplace
Help create an environment that is comfortable and respectful for staff, volunteers, clients and visitors.
Ensure reception and client-facing areas are consistently clean, organised and presentable.
Waste, Recycling and Environmental Stewardship
Manage waste disposal and recycling according to organisational sustainability practices.
Report opportunities to reduce waste or improve environmentally friendly cleaning processes.
Maintain Cleaning Supplies and Equipment
Monitor stock levels of cleaning produces and consumables.
Maintain equipment in good working order and report any faults promptly.
Use cleaning materials safely and responsibly.
Health, Safety and Compliance
Follow all workplace health and safety policies, including correct chemical handling and use of PPE.
Identify and report hazards,
spills, risks or maintenance issues immediately.
Participate in any required training, briefing or compliance activities.
Support the Organisation's Missions and Values
Interact respectfully with staff, volunteers and clients, recognising the sensitive nature of Non-For-Profit environments.
Maintain confidentiality and uphold the
organisations values in day-to-day tasks.
Reliability, Time Management and Independence
Complete cleaning schedules within the allocated 30 hours per week.
Work independently and manage tasks without constant supervision.
Be punctual and dependable in meeting rostered hours
Continuous Improvement
Suggest improvements to cleaning process or schedules when appropriate.
Adapt to changing organisation needs (events, busy periods, program needs, community activities etc)
Selection Criteria
Essential
Previous experience in commercial, community, or organisational cleaning.
Knowledge of safe cleaning practices, including chemical handling and WHS guidelines.
Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and follow cleaning schedules.
Strong communication skills and ability to interact respectfully with diverse people.
Reliability, punctuality, and consistent work ethic.
Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and supporting organisational values.
Physical capability to perform cleaning tasks (e.g., lifting, bending, standing for long periods).
Desirable
Experience working in a not-for-profit, community, or support-service environment.
Knowledge of sustainable cleaning practices.
Valid driver's licence or ability to travel between sites (if relevant).
Training and/or Licences and/or clearances:
Current 'C' class driver's licence.
Current National Police Clearance.
Working With Children Clearance.
First Aid Certificate (or willingness to obtain one).
