We are seeking an experienced and commercially mindedBuyerto manage purchasing and product procurement across all five Henry's Mercato stores.
This is an exciting opportunity for a buying professional in the supermarket industry who enjoys negotiating with suppliers and ensuring our stores remain well stocked with the right products at competitive prices.
About the Role
Reporting to the Finance & Administration Manager, you will be responsible for developing and implementing purchasing strategies across our supermarket network.
You will work closely with store managers, department heads and suppliers to ensure optimal stock availability and competitive pricing while supporting business growth and profitability.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and implement purchasing strategies for grocery, fresh food and other retail product categories across all five Henry's Mercato stores.
Source, evaluate and negotiate with suppliers to secure competitive pricing, favourable trading terms and reliable product supply.
Coordinate purchasing,



inventory replenishment and stock allocation across all stores to maintain product availability while minimising excess inventory and waste.
Research market trends, competitor activity and consumer preferences to identify new products and improve the product mix.
Prepare purchasing budgets, sales forecasts and inventory reports, providing recommendations to improve profitability and operational efficiency.
Collaborate with store managers and department teams to support promotional activities, seasonal buying and merchandising initiatives.
Maintain accurate purchasing records, supplier documentation and inventory data while ensuring compliance with company policies and relevant regulations.
Visit growers and wholesalers to develop relationships, assess products and undertake negotiations.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will have:
Qualifications in Business, Commerce, Retail Management or a related discipline (preferred).
Previous experience as a Retail Buyer, Purchasing Officer, Procurement Officer or similar role within the retail or supermarket industry.
Excellent negotiation, supplier relationship management and commercial decision-making skills.
High level proficiency in Microsoft Excel and inventory or retail management systems.
Excellent organisational and time management skills with the ability to manage purchasing across multiple store locations.
Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
A proactive approach to continuous improvement and cost optimisation.
Current Australian driver's licence.
