Mount St Bernard College - Herberton
Mount St Bernard College is located at Herberton on the Atherton Tablelands.
Established in **** by the Sisters of Mercy as a day and boarding school, the College enjoys a proud history and a rich tradition.
The Sisters of Mercy began their educational ministry in the Herberton district over 100 years ago with the opening of St Patrick's Parish Catholic Primary School in ****.
Responding to the changing educational needs in Far North Queensland, the original Sisters of Mercy Boarding School, St Mary's Cooktown, was moved to Herberton in ****.
The Sisters of Mercy gifted the college to the Diocese of Cairns in February **** and it is now administered by Cairns Catholic Education Services.
The Catholic Education Community – Diocese of Cairns, is a partnership between Catholic Education Services and twenty-nine schools.
The Bishop of Cairns delegates responsibility for the leadership and strategic management of this system of 29 schools to the Executive Director of Catholic Education.
The college has approximately 140 students, including boarders and day students.
About the Role
The Food Technology Assistant provides practical support to the teacher and students, assisting in preparing and maintaining learning resources, equipment, and classroom environments while supporting student engagement, supervision and participation in learning activities.
This role plays an important part in ensuring a safe, well-organised,
and positive learning environment that enables teachers to deliver effective educational programs and students to achieve successful learning outcome.
Typical duties of the role may include, but are not limited to;
Support classroom learning by preparing, operating, and maintaining equipment, materials and resources
Set up, pack away, store and maintain specialised classroom equipment and supplies
Monitor equipment, materials and stock levels and arrange repairs or replenishment as required
Ensure compliance with safety procedures, policies and operational standards, reporting any hazards
Provide practical assistance to students in the use of classroom resources and equipment
Support student engagement by reinforcing appropriate behaviour and school expectations
Undertake student supervision duties including playground supervision
Perform general housekeeping, cleaning and other duties as directed by the Principal or delegate
Work Requirements
Hold a Working with Children Blue Card
Be fully supportive of the ethos of Catholic Education
First aid (including CPR) is highly regarded
