Logistics Officer / Purchasing Officer
Position Purpose
The Logistics Officer / Purchasing Officer is responsible for ensuring the timely and cost-effective procurement of materials, components, and services while managing the effective movement of goods into and out of the business.
The role supports manufacturing, engineering, and customer delivery by maintaining reliable supply chains, inventory accuracy, and effective supplier relationships.
Key Responsibilities
Purchasing
Source materials, components, and services in accordance with company requirements.
Obtain and evaluate supplier quotations based on cost, quality, lead time, and technical suitability.
Raise and administer purchase orders in accordance with company procedures.
Monitor purchase order progress and proactively manage supplier lead times.
Resolve supplier issues relating to pricing, quality, shortages, and delivery performance.
Develop and maintain strong relationships with suppliers.
Identify opportunities to reduce procurement costs while maintaining quality and reliability.
Maintain accurate purchasing records and supplier documentation.
Logistics
Coordinate domestic and international freight for incoming and outgoing shipments.
Prepare shipping documentation, commercial invoices, packing lists, export declarations, and other transport documentation where required.
Liaise with freight forwarders, customs brokers, and transport providers.
Track shipments and provide delivery updates to relevant stakeholders.
Ensure products are packaged and dispatched in accordance with customer and regulatory requirements.
Manage freight costs and identify opportunities for improved logistics efficiency.
Inventory Management




Maintain accurate inventory records within the company ERP or inventory management system.
Monitor stock levels and initiate replenishment to prevent shortages.
Participate in stocktakes and investigate inventory discrepancies.
Ensure purchased goods are correctly receipted, labelled, and stored.
Supplier Performance
Monitor supplier performance against quality, delivery, responsiveness, and cost objectives.
Support supplier qualification and evaluation activities.
Report supplier performance issues and recommend corrective actions where necessary.
Compliance
Ensure procurement and logistics activities comply with company policies and applicable regulations.
Maintain accurate purchasing, freight, and inventory records.
Support quality management requirements relating to traceability and documentation.
Continuous Improvement
Identify opportunities to improve purchasing, inventory, and logistics processes.
Support initiatives to reduce lead times, improve stock availability, and optimise freight costs.
Contribute to the ongoing development of procurement and logistics procedures.
General Responsibilities
Work collaboratively with Engineering, Production, Sales, Finance, and Management.
Communicate proactively regarding supply risks or delivery delays.
Maintain a safe and organised work environment.
Undertake other duties reasonably associated with the role as directed by management.
