Based at HMAS Cerberus on Victoria's Mornington Peninsula, this casual opportunity will see you join Serco's Defence Marine Support Services team supporting the secure operation and maintenance of vessels and equipment.
Working alongside experienced maritime professionals, you'll contribute to essential inshore operations that help maintain Navy capability and fleet readiness.
This role is ideal for maritime professionals looking to broaden their experience while continuing to support Defence outcomes.
As a Master <24 MED III NC, you'll make a positive impact by:
Operating as Master, Mate or General Purpose Hand in line with your AMSA qualificationsSupporting harbour services, consort duties, fuelling operations and marine support activitiesConducting vessel manoeuvres, cargo handling, seamanship and shipboard drillsPerforming maintenance and marine engineering activities aligned to your MED III certificationMaintaining vessel logs, work orders and operational documentationSupporting the training and induction of personnel involved in inshore vessel operationsWorking closely with Defence, Serco teams and contractors to ensure safe and effective operations
The role requires qualified maritime professionals to deliver seamanship and marine engineering support across Serco's inshore operations capability.
Responsibilities include vessel operations, maintenance activities, administration and compliance with safety and environmental requirements.

You Could Be a Great Fit If You Have
A current AMSA Certificate of Competency as Master less than 24 metres Near Coastal and Marine Engine Driver Grade III Near CoastalMaritime industry experience, ideally within Defence or supporting naval operationsFirst Aid CertificateExperience carrying out vessel maintenance and engineering activitiesStrong knowledge of safe work practices and environmental requirementsA current driver's licence and the ability to work across multiple Serco Defence locations when requiredExcellent organisational and time management skills,
including the ability to show initiative and work effectively under pressure.
The following you either hold or be able to obtain:
Statement of Attainment – Safe Cargo Operations on Oil and Chemical TankersTanker FamiliarisationStatement of Attainment – Fire Prevention and Fire FightingHigh Risk licences Dogging, Crane, working within a confined spaceAbility to obtain and maintain a Maritime Security Identification Card (MSIC) where required by the business.
