This fixed term position in our supportive team is an excellent opportunity to build your planning knowledge in a wide variety of land use zones and strategic infrastructure.
About The Position
The City has a unique and exciting opportunity available for a motivated individual to join our Statutory Planning team on a fixed term basis until 24 December ****.
Tailored to your career stage, we are seeking applications from candidates with all levels of experience to support the assessment and processing of development applications as well as provide high level customer support for enquiries relating to zoning, subdivision, land use and development.
Key Accountabilities
Process town planning applications in accordance with the provisions of the Local Planning Schemes and policies.
Assist with the implementation of Council resolutions and provide regular reports to the Coordinator Statutory Planning on progress of action.
Assist and contribute towards the identification, development, implementation and review of guidelines, policies and procedures in relation to town planning.
Respond to general enquiries (personal, written or telephone) relating to zoning, subdivision, development/use of land, Council's Local Planning Schemes, policies, relevant Acts, Local laws or Regulations, and where appropriate the application of proper town planning principles.
Effectively liaise with relevant stakeholders, providing advice and specialist support in the delivery, review and/or resolution of planning matters.
Position Requirements
Ideally, candidates will hold or be progressing towards a tertiary qualification in Urban & Regional Planning (or similar) and have experience suited to the Planning Officer role.
Completion of a pre-employment medical including alcohol and other substances testing is required of all positions at the City.
Remuneration And Benefits
The Planning Officer position has a salary starting from $102,015 per year, offered dependent on knowledge, skills, experience and qualifications.

Selection Criteria
i.
Knowledge and appreciation of relevant legislation, regulations and current town planning requirements, principles and practices within Western Australia (including interpreting and applying the Residential Design Codes of WA).
ii.
Experience assessing planning applications.
iii.
High level interpersonal, negotiation, public relations and customer service skills.
iv.
Ability to research, interpret and effectively communicate advice on legislation and policies.
