Parkville Youth Mental Health and Wellbeing Service (PYMHWS) is Victoria's newest public mental health service dedicated to the care of young people aged 12 to 25 experiencing complex mental health challenges.
PYMHWS is leading a bold transformation in youth mental health care across Melbourne's north and west, delivering care that is accessible, inclusive, evidence-informed, and grounded in lived experience.
The Opportunity
Join the Custodial Forensic Youth Mental Health Service (FYMHS) and help establish specialist mental health services at the reopened Malmsbury Youth Justice Precinct (MYJP).
As a Senior Speech Pathologist you will provide specialist assessment, formulation and intervention for young people presenting with complex communication, language, cognitive, and neurodevelopmental needs.
Working alongside a multidisciplinary team, you will support clinical decision‐making and improve outcomes for some of Victoria's most vulnerable young people.
This unique role contributes to service innovation, workforce growth and the delivery of evidence‐informed care within one of Australia's most specialised youth mental health services.
About You
The Senior Speech Pathologist operates with a high degree of autonomy and clinical responsibility, recognised as a senior clinical resource within Custodial FYMHS.
The role provides discipline‐specific leadership, clinical consultation, supervision, mentoring and support to speech pathology students, early career clinicians and multidisciplinary staff.
It also contributes to service development, quality improvement, research,



clinical governance and the development of specialist neurodevelopmental assessment pathways within Custodial FYMHS.
The role requires demonstrated expertise in working with young people experiencing complex mental health, neurodevelopmental, trauma‐related and forensic presentations.
Practice is grounded in evidence‐informed approaches including developmental and attachment theory, trauma‐informed care, child and adolescent mental health frameworks, neurodevelopmental assessment principles, ecosystemic practice, recovery‐oriented care and culturally safe and anti‐oppressive practice.
The position operates across multiple custodial and transition support settings and may travel to various community service locations throughout Victoria.
Travel between youth justice custodial sites is an inherent requirement of the role and will be supported through access to organisational fleet vehicles during working hours.
In response to evolving service needs, the incumbent may be required to work flexibly across programs, sites and service streams within Custodial FYMHS and PYMHWS to support service delivery, continuity of care and organisational priorities.
Qualifications
Tertiary qualification in Speech Pathology from a recognised institution, eligible for membership with Speech Pathology Australia.
Eligibility for, or current Certified Practising Speech Pathologist (CPSP) status with Speech Pathology Australia.
Demonstrated commitment to maintaining professional standards,



including participation in Continuing Professional Development (CPD) in line with professional and organisational requirements.
Meets minimum experience requirements for a Grade 4 clinician, including a minimum of 5 years' post‐qualification experience and demonstrated advanced clinical practice capability.
